Summary

Philip Russell, a US Park Ranger for a small island in the Pacific Northwest, has stumbled across a dead body in the forest. Unsure if the dead woman is a local or someone from the mainland, the new female sheriff has come to Rockfish Island to find out if the community has anything still to fear.

Eager to help solve the mystery, both instantly find themselves at odds with each other. Philip, defending the people he's known his whole life, and Sheriff Lane, giving no one the benefit of the doubt...not even Philip. Together, the investigation progresses, and both quickly realize that on this sleepy island not everyone is who they pretend to be...and someone may be a killer.

An exciting mystery series debut

I really enjoyed this first in mystery series audiobook. It started with a dramatic scene on a small island when a body is discovered. What at first looks like a bear attack turns out to be very different.

I thought Sheriff Lane and Philip Russell the island ranger made a good pair of sleuths. The characters in the novel are well drawn and stayed with me. I enjoyed the humorous parts too. There were plenty of suspects to keep me guessing and the end lived up to the exciting beginning. Look forward to listening to the next one.

The narrator did a fine job. I had no problem knowing who was who and her voice sounded pitch perfect to me.

A really good story that kept me entertained and listening.

Gripping whodunnit ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This enthralling mystery has great characters, red herrings, and plenty of twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat. Nancy Peterson does an amazing job of narrating this intriguing story and I confess to sitting in a car park at my destination not wanting to get out because I was so engrossed in it! Throughly recommended 😊
