About this listen

The Durrell family returns to the island of Corfu, continuing the story begun in My Family and Other Animals. Already an ardent naturalist at the age of 10, the young Gerald lives in an unconventional and disordered household with his mother, sister, and two brothers. Convivial and open, the family plays host to a constant stream of quirky guests. But for Gerald, the main attraction is the wildlife of Corfu.

Nigel Davenport is best narrator for a British male narrative voice... as an insomniac child I use to pass out to the Corfu series through to his dulcet tones on a tape version and he brilliant captures Durrell's wry but slightly heavy sense of humour. I would thoroughly recommend this as an audiobook experience.

Read by Nigel Davenport....

That there a a number of grammatical errors that I do not remember seeing when I read the books. It's just aggravating envery time the mistake is made. Sorry, just being picky. Our am I? Lit instead of lighted.. Or lept instead leaped...... And others.

Brilliant books, it's a great shame :-

Just like the first book in the Corfu trilogy, "Birds, Beasts and Relatives" is beautifully written and hilarious. I was, however, disappointed to discover that the audiobook wasn't narrated by Hugh Bonneville like the first book in the series. Nigel Davenport does a good job, but the superb quality of Hugh Bonneville's performance of "My Family and Other Animals" remains unmatched.

Disappointed by the narration.

Funny, touching, absolutely loved it! All fans of Durrell will enjoy this so much and for all new comers, welcome!

This is great fun! As with his narration of ‘My Family and Other Animals’, Nigel Davenport is perfect - his narration adds to the humour, and he does the voices brilliantly. Very atmospheric, thoroughly interesting, and Durrell’s work is amongst the funniest I’ve ever read / listened to! Would thoroughly recommend.
