Story
Stephen Mitchell’s gift is to breathe new life into ancient classics. In Joseph and the Way of Forgiveness, he offers us his riveting novelistic version of the biblical tale in which Jacob’s favorite son is sold into slavery and eventually becomes viceroy of Egypt. Tolstoy called it the most beautiful story in the world. What’s new here is the lyrical, witty, vivid prose, informed by a wisdom that brings fresh insight to this foundational legend of betrayal and all-embracing forgiveness.

Story
The Bhagavad Gita is a gem so precious in India's spiritual treasury that many regard it not as a volume of sacred verse, but as a living manifestation of the Divine. In the summer of 1974, inside a balmy Boulder, Colorado, warehouse that served as a main hall of a fledgling Naropa Institute, some say a minor miracle occured: the reawakening of the Gita's living presence, as it unfolded in a series of wisdom teachings led by Ram Dass.

The most translated book in the world after the Bible, the Tao Te Ching, or “Book of the Tao,” is a guide to cultivating a life of peace, serenity, and compassion. Through aphorisms and parable, it leads readers toward the Tao, or the “Way”: harmony with the life force of the universe. Traditionally attributed to Lao-tzu, a Chinese philosopher thought to have been a contemporary of Confucius, it is the essential text of Taoism, one of the three major religions of ancient China.

The Yoga Sutra of Patanjali has long been shrouded in mystery and confusion. That’s because existing translations rely on confusing language and outdated interpretations. The process can be so frustrating that it seems that only yoga instructors or dedicated gurus are committed to studying this ancient text, the Yoga Sutra. This guide is intended to teach you how to be the leader in your own spiritual journey. By modernizing and simplifying the sutras, this guide makes it easy for you to know exactly how the sage Patanjali conceptualized yoga and the path to realization.

Full of Wisdom
I bought this after having fallen totally in L ve with his translation and performance of the Tao Te Ching. it is my favourite book of all time and I think I've listened to it at least ten time so far.
The Bhagavad Gita is not quite as powerful as the Tao Te Ching, maybe it's just my preference for non fiction showing, but it is full of insight nevertheless.
I'd never actually read the Bhagavad Gita before so I'm glad I did and I'm glad it was Mitchell's translation and narration. Stephen Mitchell is a wonderful translator and narrator and Id read anything written or spoken by him.

I could listen to this again and again (and will do). The recording does sound ever so slightly muffled, but it's narrated in a clear and soothing voice so it didn't interfere with my enjoyment of it one bit. I look forward to listening to his translation of the Tao Te Ching.

I'm in love with this marvelous work if art
I just finished the Bhagavad Gita and I am in love with our Great Creator, the Alpha and Omega. And I'm in love with whatever great soul first wrote this magnificent poem, Veda-Vyasa. And I'm so grateful that I listened to The Great Minds of Eastern Philosophy and was introduced to this marvelous work of art. Now I understand why so many great thinkers have been attracted to this text. I keep a hard copy on my nightstand and know I will be reading and re-reading it often as yet another directional guide on my path. ✨💓

The Gita is one of those sacred books I have thought about reading many times but never gotten to it; until now. And it is as great as I hoped it was. Krishna's unshakable presence and wise words stayed with me long after finishing it. Thank you, Stephen Mitchell for a great translation of this gem.
