Summary

This audiobook offers to solve the UK productivity conundrum and dramatically improve health and care services while reducing their cost and much more, besides. And it is no promise or dream. It is evidenced by those who have followed John's prescription, which is to change the way they think about management.

Beyond Command and Control exposes the fallacies in command and control management, and they are not what people expect them to be. It also gives practical illustrations of what it has taken for leaders of service organisations to cross a management-thinking Rubicon. The results are compelling and the means unusual.

A new management?

The thoughts of John Seddon are interesting. After transforming ten healthcare organizations, he makes those failings which I met.

The solution which offers sounds easy but is far from that.

But if you are in responsibility position of healthcare organization, this is a must. Similarly, like lean, TPS, Deming etc.

I enjoyed and got many new ideas.

Great ideas but patronising tone

The ideas shared in the book are valuable indeed. I wish the author had spent more time distilling how the principles of Vanguard work differently from other approaches without feeling the need to trash other approaches based on a very superficial and partisan understanding of them. This dismissive, patronising and ill informed tone put me off finishing an otherwise good book.

Clicky mouth

The message is great, but the author needed to work on the audio performance. So many mouth clicks! Rustling of pages. A little investment in a professional Voiceover artist and sound engineer would have fixed this.

Not much new

If you've read any of his previous books there isn't anything new in here. I'd like more insights into practical applications.
