About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

One truth I have learnt, as middle age enmeshes me like Virginia creeper, is that I shall never change—because my capacity for self-improvement is absolutely nil.’

A classic collection of journalism from the legendary Jilly Cooper. Wonderfully warm and astonishingly acerbic, Jilly’s observations from her days as a much-loved newspaper columnist cover everything on sex, socialising and survival - from marriage and friendship; the minutiae of family life and the tedium of going to visit people for the weekend; to the stress of hosting dinner parties and the descent of middle age.

Entertaining and full of heart, join Jilly Between the Covers to explore the very highs and lows of everyday life.

Praise for Jilly Cooper:
'Joyful and mischievous' Jojo Moyes
'Fun, sexy and unputdownable' Marian Keyes
'Flawlessly entertaining' Helen Fielding

What better gift to give for Christmas than this wonderfully irreverent collection of the great Jilly Cooper's columns from the 60s?
No one else can make me laugh and cry, sometimes at the same time, quite like Jilly Cooper
Jilly Cooper's non-fiction is just as entertaining as her novels
This book has given me so much pleasure
Britain needs this jolly Jilly Cooper collection...Line after line, anecdote after anecdote is laugh-out-loud funny, the prose bouncing along like a labrador puppy
There are so many lifestyle columnists today, you forget that Cooper did it first and did it best
A collection of Jilly Cooper's vintage newspaper columns is bitchy, sexy, insightful and, most of all, great fun
She is simply a legend
This [is an] enjoyable collection of typically candid, irreverent and self-deprecating observations

Very clever and funny. Without being unkind, life of a British writer in the past with dinner things changing, and some staying the same. I will listen to this again.

Even better than her novels.

Great collection of Jilly's articles written with such humour and still relevant in today's world. I just wish there had been more, as the overall book is pretty short. Also, with Jilly's history of novels, I was hoping for a couple of rude extracts.

Great fun

Never realised what an enormous snob cooper is. She likes to portray herself as someone who is incapable of any mundane chore and ‘terribly jolly hockey sticks’. The chapter about the bird watchers was cringingly sad in her portrayal of the people on a birdwatching holiday. It made me wonder what she said about me after our similar meeting a few years ago.

Disappointing

Hadn’t read one of Marian’s books forever. Really loved the twists and turns in plot. Helped me live vicariously. Perfect way to pass time. Going back for more.

Loved this
