Leena Kazak
She was raised to hate him. Now she shares his bed.
Princess Mayah of Tundrayn isn’t allowed to want. Not freedom. Not love. Not even her own future. Instead, she’s spent her life healing others’ pain and swallowing her own. But when her father strikes a fragile alliance with enemy-kingdom Arbinj to crush a rising rebellion, she is bartered into a marriage she didn’t choose for a crown she doesn’t want.
She expects a prince. She gets the Dark Commander.
Zevayr is ruthless, unyielding, and a stormwielder with a reputation soaked in blood. He is everything Mayah was taught to fear. Yet as they race across rebel-torn lands, the less certain she is of where the monster ends and where the man begins.
In Arbinj’s glittering courts, the Rebellion surges and dangerous secrets stir from Mayah’s past—secrets that could shatter her kingdom, and her heart, if she lets them.
The question is not if Mayah will betray, but who: her people, her love, or herself?

After listening to many of the BIC series/ audiobooks, I was in a bit of a slump... but this one got me right out of it, super excited and obsessed again! Leena Kazak has an ADDICTIVE writing style, everything from the characters, the storytelling, the twists and turns... is amazing and I never wanted to stop listening. And THAT twist in the middle of the book...OMG!!! It left me completely GASPING. It was a long long time since a book did that to me. Usually my intuition sees them coming :)... but this one just gave me a ''feeling'' and when the reveal came, it left me shocked.
The duet between Rylee Kuberra (as Mayah) and Adam Verner (as Zev) is absolute FIRE and soooo delightful!!! Rylee's performance for Mayah is beyond OUTSTANDING and my absolute favorite ever female narrated character (yes- amongst plenty great ones!!!). The way she brings to life Mayah's complex character throughout the incredible story, all the voice inflexions, the emotions pouring out of every sentence, the sounds, and those little adorable giggles... just PERFECTION. WOW. Adam completes this duo brilliantly, portraying Zev's style and personality so well. I am really hoping we will get the 'Between Sky and Sea" audiobook also, for more of Zev's POV, emotional unleashing and certain heartbreak.
All in all, this audiobook went straight to my All Times Favorites (very short) list, and I will be re-listening to it time and time again. Really well done Leena, Rylee and Adam!!!!
