About this listen

"His eyes returned to mine, that invisible tether between us strung too tight. That magnetic pull, it was unbreakable, unyielding. Eternal. And it demanded that we collide."

On the secluded continent of Edenvale, possessing magic is a death sentence. Those who have it are labeled Cursed, and by order of the king, they are Cleansed—a horrific event utilizing a hot, hungry pyre and an iron collar. Enemy to the king, a group known as the Cursed rebels defend their lands from his reach, creating an ongoing bloodthirsty war.

When Sage's brother is conscripted for the war, she is forced to trade in her cozy, peaceful cottage life and join the Cursed rebels to get him back. Her mission seems straightforward, but Von, the leader of the Cursed rebels, comes riddled with dark secrets. With his otherworldly eyes, black as a starless night, and a taste for juicy thigh—ahem—red apples, Sage knows better than to get involved with a guy like him. But knowing and doing are two very different things.

Together with the Cursed rebels and Von, the king of inky deals and sexy, stolen moments, Sage embarks on the quest of a lifetime. Little does she know that fate is at work and the gods are watching her every move.

Between Life and Death is for ACOTAR fans looking to scratch that insatiable itch.

I can't get into this book, there isn't any depth to the characters. I have no idea why the fmc wants to save her brother or what from.. I know the MMC keeps claiming she's his, but he doesn't do anything to get to know her or anything else. I have stopped reading at chapter 16..

Boring

I just didn't feel the connection between any of the characters. Nothing against the narration, just nothing seemed to happen, even at the end it just kind of fell flat for me. But you might like it so don't let this review stop you.

Not for me

I usually stick out books/audio to the end just out of a stubborn desire to know what happens but I got 4hrs into this and couldn't continue. None of the characters have any actual personality, and the romance has zero tension, it's just a huge guy saying oddly creepy things to the FMC about how they're meant for each other and her having no questions about that. The characters are travelling together but there's barely any dialogue between them, we're just expected to believe that they're suddenly close now, and know each other intimately somehow. Instead of meaningful interactions the author decided to utilise ridiculously over the top, cliched descriptions of the MMCs rippling muscles at EVERY AVAILABLE OPPORTUNITY to the extent that it is just weird and unnecessary. Give him some personality maybe? It also contains some irritating misogynistic vibes, like how she's surprised he cooks because he's 'a man', or the casual way the plot has the women pretending to be sex workers and no one struggles with that? Was this even written by a woman?

The voice actors were excellent and they acted out the characters as best they could but the source material was awful. I love romantasy, I love an enemies to lovers plot, I love a strong FMC, I love found family and strong friendship vibes, I love interesting characters. I did not find anything I was looking for in this book.

Badly written I couldn't continue
