Summary

Byron is tall, handsome, well-spoken, wealthy, and has outstanding taste in wine and food. You’ll be impressed by his impeccable attire and eloquence in conversation, ranging from Baroque art to the newest advances in pharmacology. With his charming smile and elegant manners, Byron truly is the perfect date...and who doesn’t love a man who appreciates opera?

What’s the catch, you ask?

Just this: If Byron finds you suitable, he will subject you to utterly depraved forms of torture.

No, I’m not talking about S&M.

Byron will mutilate, rape, and then kill you. Don’t think that you will survive the encounter, because you won’t.

He has a perfect record.

Intrigued? Would you like me to arrange a rendezvous? It has to be in the next few days because he’s leaving on a trip south to much warmer climes, and his calendar will be completely full.

Yes? Very good. I will make a reservation for two under the name of Smith.

Who am I? I’m Gloria, his personal assistant.

By far the best audiobook I’ve ever listened to!

This was utterly outstanding. The narration was so easy to get lost in, the story was sublime, and the writing was nothing short of perfection. This book was unlike anything I’ve listened to before, completely original and enthralling. I didn’t know where the story was going but I was intrigued from the very beginning, and thoroughly enjoyed the journey. Fantastic performance, incredible audiobook.

Intrigued after just the first few lines

And doesn’t that say something? Because you want the book you pick up to do that. To get you in a fist and just not let go. Or at least I like my books that way.

Bey Deckard is a new author to me and Ian Walker is a new narrator. I found this book by a complete accident. And man, how I love to have my expectations exceeded in all ways! Fantastic writing, excellent narration, dark and twisted story.

It had me conflicted about my feelings many a time reading this, because I should be horrified, right? But… I admit that I kept on being intrigued. And to then be surprised amongst all the intrigue? This book has strung all the right (albeit very, very dark) notes.

And these are the best sort of stories. The ones that keep you coming back for more. I just wish there was more. But then I always do with the ones I enjoy the most. Perhaps this was a blessing in disguise, it allowed not to get too emotionally attached to some of the characters with where the plot took us…

Excellent book, accompanied by fantastic narration and beautiful and intriguing cover art. What was most enjoyable were the less obvious gems of profoundness and philosophical concepts that bring much food for thought if one is listening hard enough to hear them. Highly recommend.
