About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Read by award-winning narrator Jeff Harding.

**NOW A MAJOR PRIME TV SERIES STARRING ALAN RITCHSON**

Reacher never backs down from a problem.

And he's about to find a big one, on a deserted Arizona road, where a Jeep has crashed into the only tree for miles around. Under the merciless desert sun, nothing is as it seems.

Minutes later Reacher is heading into the nearby border town, a backwater that has seen better days. Next to him is Michaela Fenton, an army veteran turned FBI agent, who is trying to find her twin brother. He might have got mixed up with some dangerous people.

And Reacher might just need to pay them a visit.

Their leader has burrowed his influence deep into the town. Just to get in and meet the mysterious Dendoncker, Reacher is going to have to achieve the impossible.

To get answers will be even harder. There are people in this hostile, empty place who would rather die than reveal their secrets.

But then, if Reacher is coming after you, you might be better off dead.

Although the Jack Reacher novels can be listened to in any order, Better Off Dead is the 26th ausiobook in the internationally popular series.

‘Jeff Harding’s [...] narration captures Reacher’s character perfectly [...] you have to savour every minute.’ The Sunday Times

I love the jack reacher books. I read most of the books but have listened to the last couple on audible. The story on this book is a mixture of many other reacher stories and the narrative is dull and slow. I found myself not really bothered about what was going to happen as I knew that reacher would win in the end with no real problems. Whilst that is why we love the character as he is the hardest man alive, it’s all becoming very predictable. I would strongly suggest changing the narrator for the next book, and maybe making reacher a little more human. The book was ok but certainly not the best reacher story. Felt a bit like just going through the motions.

Lazy writing and outdated narration

Who doesn't love a bit of Reacher, the tall muscular loner who wanders the US in search of his next good deed. This is a solid story, well read. It can get a little convoluted in places, but generally it trots along well to its conclusion.

Nice bit of Reacher

I’ve read all the Reacher books, some many times. This was by far the most disappointing. Too far fetched even by Reachers standards and was all over the place with no real substance. Such a shame 😔

Maybe the end of the line for Reacher

Short and a little less depth than previous novels. All the notes were there but not the music.

Seemed very short.

As an avid Jack reacher fan I've been hooked on the books ever since the Killing Floor but since the last 2 books they've gone down and down in quality, the storylines are more and more tedious and lacking real substance. After so many great books there's only so much you write about with becoming monotonous.
Great series. Should have ended on a high 2 books ago.

Time for Jack to hang up his toothbrush!
