Summary

A hilarious and honest collection of stories, thoughts, and tales of a life in comedy from the award-winning comic Adam Hills.

Adam Hills is one the UK's best loved comedians. For 30 years he has been performing stand-up, hosting TV shows and winning the hearts of a nation.

Taking us from the early days of the Sydney Stand Up scene to hosting his own radio show, touring the world and eventually landing on British TV, Best Foot Forward is a story of a life in comedy. Along the way Adam shares some childhood tales and a few backstage blunders and encounters some fairly famous faces - the likes of Whoopi Goldberg, Billy Connolly, and that guy who sang The Macarena. Yes, him.

This is an utterly hilarious and honest collection of stories about Adam's ups and downs in the world of comedy. It's a lesson in following your heart, being positive and discovering that what makes you different also makes you unique.

A better Audiobook than book

Although this is a good account of the history behind the stand up comic - it's the story telling and performance from Adam reading it himself that makes this a great listen From extra little bits to the outstanding accents you will be entertained from start to finish

Upbeat but not gripping

There are plenty of interesting stories in this book but I just didn’t find it particularly gripping or funny. Wasn’t bad but wasn’t great either in my humble opinion!

Gives a little more than the book

Adam’s narration expands topics and delights listeners with his famed singing skills and accents. This happy and positive story won’t unveil any mystery or intrigue; it’ll make you smile stupidly as you skip through Adams comedy career. Well worth a punt

Surprisingly tedious

I really like Adam Hills but found this read a bit like a very, very long humble brag. He’s a really funny tv host so I expected a lot of laughs. The anecdotes were only mildly amusing and overall I found it long and quite dull.

As positive and funny as you'd expect

This is a great read, as funny and uplifting as you'd expect. If you're as cynical as me the relentless positivity is a bit much, but I know that says more about me than about the author (I'm sorry but if I'd have been at that Prince gig, I'd have called Nick Clegg a wanker too). He has a lot of great stories though, and his optimistic generous outlook on life runs throughout. I love the Last Leg, and it's great hearing how that developed. Highly recommend listening to this on audiobook, I really enjoyed the 'off-script' asides.

uplifting book

Loved this book. Really uplifting, made me love Adam Hills even more than I did before. if you're a fan of his stand up then I say buy it. if you want to read a book that will make you feel warm inside, I'd say read it. Written from the heart and read with some genuine comic timing, a great book.
