About this listen

When Dr. Paris DeMont lost her beloved Gabriella to the mindless tragedy of Nine Eleven, she lost more than her partner of eight years. She lost her will to love. A successful cardiologist to New York City's elite, Paris now lives a sterile, emotionless existence on Manhattan's Upper East Side.

But Paris finds out that even when one tries to give up on life, life has a way of interfering and forcing you to live it. When Paris returns to Banyon, Missouri, to oversee the repairs to the aging Victorian farmhouse she inherited from her grandmother, the protective barrier she has wrapped around her heart is tested to the limit.

Childhood friend Sloan McKinley still carries a torch for Paris . . . a torch that even after twenty-five years still burns brightly and threatens to consume them both, if only Paris will let it.

Contains mature themes.

I enjoyed this so much it was difficult for me to leave it be. The characters pulled me in. I loved being part of this journey. Excellent writing and a great Author.

Abby, I listen to every book you narrate. I can't seem to find any other voice that is so diverse. You are so skilled in your craft and a fantastic addition to every audio offering.

LOVELY STORY

Beautiful story that gets you right in the feels. Kenna White managed to make me feel the same emotions as the characters, love, hurt, pain and a few tears. A powerful story and exquisitely narrated by the inspiring Abby Craden. You won’t be disappointed.

Emotion invoking

This is the second work from Kenna White that I've listened to. She's excellent at filling her story with emotion.
This book broke my heart really, and came close to mending it again. But as with the previous book I read, the resolution happens at the very very end. There's something about that that just feels a little unfulfilling. You get the relief of the resolution but no time to sit in the glow of happiness, because suddenly its over.
For that, I can't quite give this 5 stars.
Also, the word 'smirk' is in this book a lot, and in the immortal words of Inigo Montoya, "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

Almost excellent
