Another fabulous novel written by Layla Hagen, a grumpy sunshine single dad romance that captivates your attention and tugs at your heartstrings. This second book in the “Clifford Brothers” series is Heath’s story, and wow, what a story it is, from his intriguing backstory to his adorable nine-year-old daughter Evie, and the struggles of running a household and running a business, as well as giving his all to his daughter is taking a toll on him. And when the company he hired to clean his home fails to show up again, and after complaining about it, a suggestion was made to hire a house manager, someone to make sure everything that needs to be done gets done, as well as cleaning and tidying the house. Melody, a recent college graduate, majored in fashion and marketing, had worked her way through school, but has not found a job yet in her field. So when her landlady tells her that her boss is looking for someone to manage his household, she applied for the job because it paid better than her job at the bar and the hours were better for her. Heath’s daughter takes an instant liking to Melody, and she lands the job and excels at it, and it does not take long for Heath to take a liking to her too. It was great watching these two fight the smoking hot chemistry between them, then see their relationship morph into something so much more. Heath’s tragic losses in his life left him with scars, and he continues to battle his inner demons, demons that prevent him from wanting long-term relationships. But she changed his stance on relationships, and he took that leap, and all was going well until what he feared became a reality, and he almost gave up the best thing that happened to him, and his daughter. I loved all the layers of this story and how it all played out, with the perfect balance of drama, a touch of angst, heartwarming moments, heartfelt emotions, and steamy romance. Once again, Hagen’s writing, plot, and world-building are fantastic, as are the character growth and development. It was great to see the brothers again, love the camaraderie between them and the love they shared with their adoptive parents. Layla Hagen, thank you for another wonderful story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous audiobook listen, Molly Stark and Jason Clarke, an ideal pairing and cast to bring these characters to life. I loved how they took each role and made it their own, sounding believable and just as I imagined the characters would sound. voice these characters and deliver a perfect portrayal of each. Stark nailed it as Melody, grasping every facet of her personality, including her sunny demeanor, and she was amazing voicing Evie too. Clarke did the same in Heath’s role and was just as amazing at showcasing his personality and was a natural in the role. Their expressive delivery conveys all the characters’ emotions, making you feel them all. These two superbly talented voice artists are entertaining storytellers, and their captivating performance keeps you hooked to the dialogue and the story.
