Summary

Azeroth is dying.

The Horde and the Alliance defeated the demonic Burning Legion, but a dire catastrophe is unfolding deep below the surface of the world. There is a mortal wound in the heart of Azeroth, struck by the sword of the fallen titan Sargeras in a final act of cruelty.

For Anduin Wrynn, king of Stormwind, and Sylvanas Windrunner, warchief of the Horde and queen of the Forsaken, there is little time to rebuild what remains and even less to mourn what was lost. Azeroth's devastating wound has revealed a mysterious material known as Azerite. In the right hands, this strange golden substance is capable of incredible feats of creation; in the wrong ones, it could bring forth unthinkable destruction.

As Alliance and Horde forces race to uncover the secrets of Azerite and heal the wounded world, Anduin enacts a desperate plan aimed at forging a lasting peace between the factions. Azerite jeopardizes the balance of power, and so Anduin must gain the trust of Sylvanas. But, as ever, the Dark Lady has her own machinations.

For peace to be possible, generations of bloodshed and hatred must be brought to an end. But there are truths that neither side is willing to accept and ambitions they are loath to relinquish. As Alliance and Horde alike grasp for the Azerite's power, their simmering conflict threatens to reignite all-out war - a war that would spell doom for Azeroth.

Great story and fantastically performed

As a avid player of World of Warcraft, I find this book was brilliantly written by Christie and personally I think Josh portrayed the characters perfectly and his voice acting is fantastic.

Fantastic and unrivalled

I have never had the desire before to listen to an audiobook and after countless advertisements for Audible I thought it only fair to give it a go before casting judgement.

Since 2008, I have been an active fan of World of Warcraft and its expansive lore and thought it best to start my Audiobook library off with a story leading up to the events of the latest expansion. Upon my first listen I was immediately engrossed in the performance of Josh Keaton and the astounding story produced by Christie Golden.

When Josh would speak as the many characters in the book, I felt that each was sincere and had been given a great thought. Throughout the book it became obvious who was talking based on the amazing voice acting.

I became obsessed with the story, itching to listen to more and more. The audiobook took over most commutes and long rainy days indoors and now that it is finished I am aching to have more from Christie Golden (with Josh Keaton, of course).

I will likely return to this Audiobook in time as the story creates an atmosphere that I would always wish to be immersed in and for that I cannot recommend it enough.

enjoyed it

I read Warcraft books before so I knew what to expect and more important what not to expect. Overall, I received positive emotions and enjoyed listening this book (narrator did well) ; hence 5 stars.
I didn't rate this by style, subject or storytelling skills, but rather for overall feel and emotional feedback.

Good overall story a must for a warcraft fan.

good story the voice of sylvannas felt weaker than the other voices, aside from that great performance.

Excellent!

Much more emotional than expected. Well written and very well presented!
I loved how well the narrator captured each voice, and their range of emotion had me bleary eyed more than once.
The music at the start of each chapter was an unexpected but welcome addition.

Fantastic Novel

absolutely loved the story. had some genuinely moving heartfelt moments brought to life by the narrator. one or two of the voices were a little similar and the female characters voices weren't the best. but I know I couldn't do better and even with that each voice good or bad captured the spirit of the character and gave you audible hints and ideas about their age, mentality and health.
