About this listen

Back in the summer of 1988, a young Richard Chizmar was catapulted into the centre of a living nightmare as the serial killer Joshua Gallagher - dubbed by the media as 'The Boogeyman' - stalked his tranquil Maryland town.

These days, Chizmar enjoys a certain level of notoriety himself as he is the only person to whom Josh Gallagher will talk, on or off the record. Chizmar likes to visit Gallagher in prison, as there are plenty of other nameless victims out there and Gallagher's confession would bring closure to grieving loved ones.

But when a masked figure leaves a horrifying calling card in the front of his home, Chizmar finds there is a price for dancing with the devil. It's clear that there is a new player controlled by the Boogeyman.

A riveting, haunting sequel to Chasing the Boogeyman, this is a tale of obsession and the adulation of evil, exploring modern society's true-crime infatuation with unflinching honesty, sparing no one from the glare of the spotlight.

This book keeps you on the edge of your seat! The many twists and turns keep you listening with a superb narration by Ciulla.
Chizmar has developed this style of genre so well and although I knew that the book was made up I did start to google 🤦‍♀️thinking surely this must be real! Hats off to such a great author that makes you believe his work of fiction is real.
Great listen and I will be recommending this to my friends for their next read.

I was very much drawn in to the previous novel due to its credulity; a work of fiction masquerading as a true crime. This novel is just as gripping, partly due to the premise that it is many years down the line with it all appearing to have started again - but to have become even more personal!
The characterisations are great, the situations engrossing and totally believable. Add into this the introduction of social media, salacious podcasts as well as slewed and outright biased reporting, which all bring a raw believability into this tightly woven story.
The audio book is a delight to listen to. It is very well read, drawing you in and adding to the sense of reality that the story readily imbues. Chris Andrew Ciulla superbly portrays the fictional Richard Chizmar as well as bringing the whole cast of characters to life.
A brilliant sequel and a big thank-you to the Author, Narrator and for all of those involved in producing this wonderfully creative work of art.

A gripping sequel and superbly read audiobook.
