Summary

Playboy. Socialite. Frivolous and wicked.

Alexander Caldwell needs to settle down.

Hence the giant white house he just bought in the suburbs.

The one that backs up to the house filled with three single women living in it.

They all have their sights set on him...but it’s her he can’t get out of his head.

Alexander has absolutely no place getting involved with a teenage girl with the world in her eyes.

But he does.

Tortured. Lonely. Desperate to run.

Sunny Thorn needs to get out of her mother’s house.

To do that, she needs money.

Hence taking the job painting a mural in Alexander Caldwell’s pool house.

The man whose eyes follow her. The man with the sculpted jaw and commanding presence. The man who is way too old for her.

When Sunny has the chance to get out of Pineridge and start a future of her own, he should let her go.

But he doesn’t.

Beautiful love story

This was an amazing age gap story. Neighbours at the start of the story. Alexander Caldwell is the ultimate bachelor playboy in the area and he’s moved in next door to Sunny Thorn and her Mom and sister.

Both have a lot of emotional issues they face and deal with in this case. Sara Cate wrote a realistic picture filled with the struggles that each of them go through fighting their attraction to one another.

Aaron plays Alexander perfectly, I really felt his struggles in the beginning with his attraction to the much younger artist he comes to care for at first with concern for the innocent Sunny Thorn who lives with her out of control Mother and sister in their party house next door. But he also can’t stay away from her and sees a way to be around her by hiring her to paint a mural for him in his pool house.

Virginia is exactly right for Sunny too. She brings out the innocence of this young woman who doesn’t fit in with her family and their party atmosphere is not for her. You really feel for everything she goes through.

I really rooted for this sizzling couple and loved how Alexander really cares for her future. The strength of both of these characters was what held my heart through this awesome love story. Awesome audiobook and really loved how the age gap is explored and how it grows throughout the book. Didn’t see any monster here, just a beautiful relationship that grows stronger when they were apart from one another and find their way back to each other. ♥️🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧

great story!!

Another well written book by Sara Cate!! I Enjoyed this age gap story as we get to know the emotional abuse Sunny goes through with her mother, father and sister. It is no wonder she ends up in the arms of her backyard neighbor Alexander!! With Alexander's help Sunny comes out of her shell and when it's time to move on...hmmm you can listen and find out for yourself!!! 😏
I identified with this book because there is
6 years between me and my husband of 20 years...Another Well Done Performance by Aaron and Virginia!!

Intense age gap romance.

This has been a really good listen which explored the difficulties inherent in a relationship between two people with such a wide age gap. It is honest about the issues that arise and the questions that arise in the mind of the older partner. Sunny does not fit on at all with her sister and mother. In fairness, imo, they are the monsters here. Alex, trying to get his life on track is both enthralled and appalled by his attraction to a girl so very much younger than himself. They both, however, need to fly in their own ways.
Aaron Shedlock and Virginia Rose are both excellent in the roles as narrators. They bring out the intense attraction between the two, the need to get past the vast difference in experience, both in life experience and sexually, with skill and assurance. 💖💖💖💖

Difficult book, but I enjoyed it a lot

This trope isn’t one I usually read–not that big of an age gap, with the female character in her late teens. But while the relationship depicted in the book is quite steamy, the author wrote mainly about the struggles around such an age gap.

I found interesting that the innocent virgin young woman is actually the one in power here. Alex, while being forty and experienced, is at a crossroad and is trying to get his life in check. Sunny, with her fresh spirit and curious mind–even when struggling with her expectations for her future and a fucked up family–is quite steady. But don’t be mistaken, the relationship is toxic, just not for the usual reasons. And it’ll take some time–and some drama–for them to build a real relationship.

Intimacy is an important part of the story, what with Sunny being a virgin. Their encounters are sizzling hot, and the tension through the roof. It can be disturbing and is actually a proof of the toxicity of the relationship.

All the usual themes are touched upon: the difference in experience, the imbalance in power, the look of the outsiders, the fights with family and close friends… They’re especially important because of Alexander’s troubled past–another layer of problems before they can be accepted as a couple.

Both narrators did an incredible job expressing the pain and struggles of the characters, as well as the passion in them and between them. While being a difficult book, I enjoyed it a lot.

Beautiful....

This really is a beautiful age gap story...

Strongly written to include so many emotional twists and turns. With strong characters and a stronger bond, you will be left wanting more.

The performance of this book was spot on. Anyone can read a book, but I strongly believe this isn't the case when it comes to narration. I think my five stars explains my feelings on this performance 😉

Wonderful listen!

When Alex buys his house in the suburbs, he has one intention.Settle down. It's time to clean up his reputation. The house he has bought is next door to a woman and her two daughters, and one he just cannot get out of his head. Sunny is half his age, but she has caught his eye. Now he has hired her to paint a mural in his pool house. As he gets to know her, there is more to her than just that initial beauty. But will their age difference get in the way? Will he be able to resist her? Sara Cate gives us a beautiful love story. Alex has demons, and he is learning to deal with them. Sunny's adult life is just beginning. And Cate melds these two lives together in such a way that your heart follows their emotions. From hesitancy, letting go and love, we get to take their journey, understand their choices and fall in love.

Finding a team that can do the age gap and sound realistic is not an easy task. Virginia Rose is a gem when it comes to voices and she picks the perfect new adult voice for Sunny. At times a little bratty, but mature for her age, Rose creates the character of Sunny flawlessly. Aaron Shedlock, with his incredible voice for Alex, adds that uneasiness that Alex has, the indecision with the burning passion he feels all comes across tugging at your heart. This team is superbly cast and makes for hours of pleasurable listening.

age gap

I love an age gap/taboo. I liked parts of it and others missed the mark...By the end this was just OK for me. Neither MCs completely evolved and at times it was hard to remember who was 19 and who was 40. I needed him to be stronger. I thoroughly enjoyed the narration.

Loved this story!

Sunny is 19 years old, innocent, and trapped with an abusive, alcoholic mother. Alexander is 40 and his mid-life crisis is driving him to leave decades of reckless sex and partying behind him. These two neighbors have an undeniable attraction to each other, but the age gap worries Alexander, especially when the newly minted adult Sunny still needs to grow up and experience her life. This a beautiful love story about two people who meet under circumstances requiring them to face their pasts in order to build their future. Nothing comes easy as they both learn to navigate love, family, and hope.

Great age gap romance!

Even though I though that both Sunny and Alexander were a tad immature for their ages, I still really enjoyed this age gap romance. My heart broke for how horrible her family was to her through the entire story. Even her sister did not treat her very well. Alex was the only person to show her any kind of affection.
Virginia Rose & Aaron Shedlock gave fantastic performances as Sunny and Alexander.

Well done on a challenging subject

Okay, I admit it: I cried.

Sara Cate pushed some buttons on a challenging subject but as the story evolved, the voice actors hit their stride.

No one believes 40-year-old Alexander will do right by 19-year-old Sunny -- least of all, Alex.

Aaron Shedlock brings a stellar performance as Alex fights his demons for the love of emotionally scarred Virginia Rose.

A Gripping & Heartfelt Story! Outstanding Listen🎧

This is a terrific age-gap romance, the story grabbed my attention right from the start and captivated it the entire time. The characters are developed nicely, they are easy to relate to and connect with. Alexander “Alex” Caldwell’s life was out of control, too much partying, too many women including ones that are taken. He decides he needs a lifestyle change, moves out of city into a house in the suburbs. Unfortunately for him his next door neighbors are a newly divorced woman and her two daughters. They all have their eyes on him, the mother, who is a real piece of work, who starts to get a conniving idea in her f’d up head. But it is the youngest daughter who catches his eye, something about her calls to him. Sunny Thorn is not a happy go lucky 19 year old, her family situation is crap, her mother over drinks and her sister is always partying, not only telling her what she should NOT be doing but showing her as well. Sunny feels stuck in her life and she wants out. Alex is drawn to her and sees something in her, he also sees she is too young for him and he tries to do the right thing. After finding out her love for art and her talent he wants to hire her to paint a mural. She sees this as an opportunity to earn some money so she could move out and get away from the madness she calls home. The two of them get along great, but at half his age she is forbidden fruit. She does not agree and starts to develop feelings for him. I loved how everything plays out in this book, the push and pull, the struggle between right and wrong, plus all the emotions each deals with and topping it off is the chemistry between them. This book takes you on an emotional rollercoaster ride, the story is beautifully written. Sara Cate thank you for this wonderful story.

🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous narration, Aaron Shedlock and Virginia Rose are the perfect cast to bring these characters to life. Their portrayal of the characters was spot on, they took each role and made it their own. Aaron Shedlock’s take on Alex was perfection, he grasped his persona, allowed you to hear all his emotions as he battled his inner demons and conflicts. Virginia Rose was the perfect Sunny, youthful with a maturity beyond her years. Both are talented voice artists and entertaining storytellers who are a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another awesome listen🎧

mom's the monster not Alex

Sunny's mom and sister were beyond toxic and made me sick. Mom's a drunkard and sis is an airheaded loosey goosey . Alex comes off as a player and a bit of a lech at first, but gets his act together. Why Sunny would let her mom use her as a punching bag without standing up to her made me mad. So many drama llamas including Sunny. but I'll give her a pass due to her age and mo role models at home. Geeze!! Good ending.
I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrators did a good job.

Enjoyed

I enjoyed listining to this age gap story. Was nice to see the journey of friendship between Alexander and Sunny. This was the first time listening to a story by Sara Cate. Aaron and Virginia are amazing narrators so I loved watching the story come alive from the first page until the end. I visualize like a movie. I went into the story blind without knowing anything other than it was an age gap story. Some say it is an emotional story and to be honest I was waiting for that and nothing ever happened. It was a nice way to spend the day while I was at work.

Simmering and worth it.

Simmering age gap romance, and has enough smolder with a touch of angst. Lived Aaron Shedlock, who brought depth to a trope that can feel off putting for some, and as a new to me voice, Virginia Rose nailed it.

SUPER ANGSTY

If you don’t like a TON of angst in your books, this is not the book for you! I’m glad I finished the book because I really wanted them both to have a happy ending, but there was so much angst from page 1 all the way to the last page, it was just a very depressing book. Books with cheating in it are a hard no for me and the male character in this book is left with leaving you wondering the entire time if he’s going to end up finally cheating on her. I have no problem with the reformed man whore story, those are always fun when a good woman comes and whip them into shape, but this book was just a little bit too much for my taste. It was well written and the narrators were amazing, just the storyline was not my cup of tea. If you don’t mind a book with a ton of angst in it, then you’re gonna love this book.
