Summary

The Fear Is Terrifying

When police rescue five-year-old Jenna Thompson from the dark closet where she's been held captive for days, they tell her she's a lucky girl. Compared to the rest of her family, it's true. But even with their killer dead of an overdose, Jenna is still trying to find peace 25 years later.

But the Truth

On leave from her forensic artist job, Jenna returns to Nashville, the city where she lost so much. Instead of closure she finds a new horror. Detective Rick Morgan needs Jenna's expertise in identifying the skeletal remains of a young child. The case jogs hazy, half-buried memories - and a nagging dread that Jenna's ordeal hasn't ended.

Is Even Worse

Now other women are dying. And as the links between these brutal killings and Jenna's past becomes clear, she knows this time a madman will leave no survivors....

Mary Burton always produces a good story.

This is the second book in the Morgan's of Nashville series. it can be read as a standalone book.

Jenna Thompson arrives in Nashville and sets up as a pavement portrait artist. She has taken leave from her police post in Baltimore, where she works as a forensic artist, to put to rest the murder of her family twenty five years before.

Detective Rick Morgan asks for her help in discovering the identity of a set of bones of a child that have been found.

While she is doing this woman start to die in strange circumstances. What is the link to Jenna or is there a link at all?

I found the narrator difficult to listen to at times as she seemed to drag on and lack in expression.

good but not great

It was a good story but never really grabbed me. characters seemed shallow and it was hard to connect with them. It ended well and I didn't think it was going to, so that's a plus. It took me 3 days to finish which is rare for me. I probably will not listen to again and don't think I will buy any more of her books.

Weak ending

The narration was excellent! The story was just ok the character that is the murderer is so obscure that when you find out who it is, it's like "huh" I don't know that I would get another of Mary Burtons book to listen to again

Bad Narrator

I'm sure the book is good but I recommend buying a physical copy. The narrator was awful. It was like listening to William Shatner read a book where every word had its own inflection. I had to stop after 5 minutes and returned the book.

Hated this book!

What would have made Be Afraid better?

A better story maybe?????

Would you ever listen to anything by Mary Burton again?

Never, I read all the positives reviews and decided to take a chance... what a waste.

Would you be willing to try another one of Jennifer Van Dyck’s performances?

I would.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I could not find any... .really...... waste of my credit and my time.

Any additional comments?

None.

Another good read

There was nothing new I haven't read before, but I do love a comfy book. It was an easy listen on a slow weekend and drive. I like this author, and sometimes you just want a book like this!

Gripping.

I enjoyed the book. I only listen when I am driving or when I am ready for bed. I sometimes fall asleep, then have to go back, but it relaxes me. The narrator was clear and concise and an easy listen. I recommend and look forward to more!
