About this listen

In this fifth edition of Basic Economics, Thomas Sowell revises and updates his popular book on commonsense economics, bringing the world into clearer focus through a basic understanding of the fundamental economic principles and how they explain our lives. Drawing on lively examples from around the world and from centuries of history, Sowell explains basic economic principles for the general public in plain English.

Basic Economics, which has now been translated into six languages and has additional material online, remains true to its core principle: that the fundamental facts and principles of economics do not require jargon, graphs, or equations and can be learned in a relaxed and even enjoyable way.

This book teaches you to think about not conflating desires with outcomes. To be sceptical of statistics. To discern conflicts of interest. To see that any organisation has advantages and disadvantages rather than absolutes.

One of the most comprehensive book on economics and what and how is value vs price perception of individuals, companies, governments.
You will understand one of the most misunderstood concepts of economics which is - misallocation of capital - and that capital = resources = limited amount.
If capital is allocated for one project, other projects have to be cancelled, because THE CAPITAL/RESOURCES are LIMITED !

Best introduction to economics!

Thomas Sowell is great, the reader not so much.
Buy the book instead and read it yourself.

Terrible reader

From the description, I expected this book to be about the science of economics. What I got was a libertarian polemic in which the solution is always to have an unregulated free market.

For someone who is actually interested in learning about the science of economics, this is not useful.

Political book, not an economics book
