Narrated by Neil Newbon—the multi-award-winning actor who brought Astarion to life in Baldur’s Gate 3—this captivating audiobook offers listeners a rare chance to experience the story through the very same voice that defined the game.

You’re too pretty to die.

Astarion Ancunin was supposed to be a magistrate, not a vampire spawn. He was supposed to serve the law, not the vicious vampire lord Cazador Szarr. And he was supposed to drink fine wine, not rat blood. Alas—the city of Baldur’s Gate cares little for what’s supposed to happen.

Though he has been powerless to resist his master’s bidding, haunting the nighttime streets to fetch warm blood, Astarion has never surrendered his hope. One day, this nightmare must end. He just has to find out how.

When the vampire lord announces a twisted competition for his favor, an opportunity presents itself in the form of a rare prize . . . and an unlikely alliance. The blood of a dead god is buried deep beneath Baldur’s Gate, and, to get it, Astarion will need the help of a handsome Aasimar paladin named Hahn den Suriel.

There are just a few problems. Astarion is not supposed to trust his fellow spawn. He’s not supposed to go out into the city for his own ends rather than the vampire lord’s. And he’s certainly not supposed to strike a deal with a stranger whose golden eyes can snare even a blackened, undead heart.

But the city of Baldur’s Gate cares little for what’s supposed to happen.

The writing is horrible, out of character in contrast with ingame Astarion. The descriptions felt AI-like, and they were often hard to follow because of how long they were. So many details, but no actual significance in the story.

Neil did an outstanding job as always.

I think this was a fast & fun read despite it having some minor issues here and there. Over all i recommend it for people who like dnd humor and people who are normal about astarion

A quick & fun read

I really enjoyed it! Felt like I got exactly what I was expecting. It's an Astarion story so of course it's messed up, but it was also very funny at times and I felt like it was balanced very well in this regard. Plus Neil did a fantastic job!
Kind of bummed I don't have another Astarion book to dive into now. I finished it too quickly.

Loved it!

I love it as fun side quest and love to get back hearing Astarions adventures. If you are looking for something deep and meaningful, go play the game, You will not get it from this book. It feels that I see the same guy as I get to know in part one in the game. And I feel that this was the authors point. Give Astarion his own adventure while he was still completly on Cazadors leash and was mostly just surface deep in things, with dissociation and not admitting even to him shelf how broken he was. Jusk keeping up with the appearance with act that he can even fool himshelf. I liked this book, cus for me Astarion is just another fun character and I read this type of books a lot. But this was just very light romance novel. Game gives him much more deeper background and you feel lot of emotions when you play. This book gives none, so treat it as side quest and nothing more. Then you can truly enjoy it as I did. Neil does fantastic job as narrator. He should narrate more. 😏

Adventure romance, Fun easy read, for BG3 Astarion fans it doesn't give anything new or meaningful.
