About this listen

Can she bake a winning cake without getting iced?

Competition is hotter than the pre-heated ovens as The Great British Baking Competition moves into cake week. Amateur baker Poppy Wilkinson has a lot to deal with, from learning she has talents she never knew about, to trying to keep cool and bake under pressure.

She’s also trying to track down the secrets of her parentage. Meanwhile, she’s saved from death by a local Border collie who seems to think she’s part of his flock and herds her out of danger. Was it an accident or does someone want her out of the baking competition permanently?

With witches, an energy vortex, and an ancient manor house that holds it’s secrets tight, Poppy’s barely got time to practice her fondant icing, never mind escaping from a killer.

Taste this culinary cozy mystery series from USA Today best-selling author Nancy Warren. Each book is a stand-alone mystery, though the books are linked. They offer good, clean fun and, naturally, recipes.

The second audiobook in the series as fantastic as the g first! Poppy is coming to terms with her new witchy skills along with showing off her baking. She is also flexing her ability for crime solving alongside her fellow bakers, allies in the village and her faithful kitty.
The performance of this story is a vast improvement on the first. While the British accents aren't perfect they do not distract from the story. You will be drawn deep into the story and the mystery of Poppy's background.

More mystery and baking

I loved this book, probably even more than the first one in the series. Even with some slightly dodgy English accents from the narrator, although her narration is growing on me and I think it’s better in this book than the previous one.. Looking forward to the next instalment!

Another great read from Nancy Warren!

So Poppy returns to compete in the contest for the second week. She had learnt a lot about herself in book one but not much about her quest about her birth parents, will she this time?
Will she get any information from Broomewode Hall, which is also an energy vortex for the coven? Will she get through another week in the contest? And is someone trying to kill her? As always it’s a busy weekend for Poppy.

A great 2nd book in the series

Book 2 didn't disappoint. Once again a great storyline with filming episode 2 of the Baking Show, lots of delicious sounding deserts, mysteries and witchcraft. Another review mentioned that the narrators English accent was a bit annoying but to be honest I was so caught up in the story the accents didn't even register. The characters have become almost real.
Can't wait for the rest of the series

Cakes and murder and ghosts and witches and cake!
