About this listen

Zack Walker, the most unlikely of detectives, faces a new mystery to unravel in this brilliantly funny crime thriller from best-selling author Linwood Barclay.

Newspaper writer, family man and reluctant hero Zack Walker has stumbled onto some dicey stories before but nothing like what he's about to uncover when a mutilated corpse is found at his father's lakeside fishing camp. As always, Zack fears the worst. And this time his paranoid worldview is dead on.

While the locals attribute the death to a bear attack, Zack suspects something far more ominous - a predator whose weapons include arson, assault, and enough wacko beliefs to fuel a dozen hate groups. Then another body is discovered, and a large supply of fertilizer goes missing, evoking memories of the Oklahoma City bombing. But it's when he learns that his neighbour is a classic Lone Wolf - FBI parlance for a solo fanatic hell-bent on using high body counts to make political statements - that Zack realizes the idyllic town of his childhood is under siege. The fuse is lit to a catastrophe of unimaginable terror. And with time running out, Zack must face off with a madman.

Excellent book. Prolific author who's storylines never deteriorate or fail to thrill. Also very well read.

love Linwood Barclay books

I always enjoy the dry humour and unusual stories about every day events so I'm never disappointed by any of his books

A Linwood Barclay is always a good story

In some ways I wish I had listened to the Zack Walker books sooner and can't think why I haven't as have enjoyed all Linwood Barclays other novels. The narration is great. You can tell who is who without it being OTT. Highly recommended and just going to download Book 4 of the series.

Another winner!

Typical of the author. I do lots of walking and his books are wonderful escapism. I giggled lots and laugh out loud quite often. 😁

Great, daft fun.

I love listening to Linwood Barclay's books, especially when William Hope is the narrator. This is the third book out of four in this series. They have all been up to Linwood Barclay's usual gripping standard. However I nearly gave up on the first book which took the phrase 'a long start' to extremes, taking till chapter 12/13 to actually get into the exciting stuff! But I'm so glad I persevered, all that character building intro from book 1 has come out in the next two books.
I'm looking forward to the 4th book but will be so sorry to say goodbye to Zack Walker who has this unfortunate habit of getting into serious trouble through no fault of his own!

Great story, great narration!
