About this listen

She kept moving forward. She didn't stop. She didn't look back.

Lily was abducted from outside her high school gates. For eight long years, she's been locked away from the outside world. During that time she's changed from a girl into a woman. She's had a baby. And now she has seized her chance and escaped.

Running for her life, with her daughter in her arms, she returns to her family and the life she used to know - to her much-loved twin sister, Abby; her mum; her high school boyfriend - and her freedom. But is it possible to go back?

Lily's perfect life as a teenager doesn't exist anymore. Since she's been gone, her family's lives have changed, too, in ways she never could have imagined. Her return, and the revelation of who took her, will send shock waves through the whole community.

Impossible not to listen to in one sitting, Baby Doll is a taut psychological thriller that focuses on family entanglements and the evil that can hide behind a benign facade.

I actually enjoyed this story but the narration was quite distracting. As a 50 yr old woman the fact that the 51 yr old mum sounded like a creaky door was slightly offensive. All of the men bar two sounded like they should be in an old cartoon as cowboys in rocking chairs on the porch of an old wooden shack. All of the women sound the same when angry or in their own words ‘bitter ‘ and this is the same as the child’s voice, whiny and annoying.
Sorry to focus so much on the narration as it’s a shame, the story kept me listening as it was pretty good covering a sensitive subject without exploiting the main characters experiences. I liked that.
Basically a pretty interesting story IF you can get past the narration, I’m glad I did but as I said at the start it IS distracting which is a shame.

Good story, narrator tries, bless her!

This was ok but very similar to another I have read of the same genre.
The narration was good on the female voices but she didn’t really work for me on the male voices they all sounded a bit strange and it took you away from the story a little as they just didn’t fit the characters.
An ok read for a holiday.

Easy listening but not gripping...

This was, overall, a really good book. My only criticism is that the ending was very predictable and almost felt a little stereotypical. But overall it was well written and well narrated

A pretty good listen

Started off OK, but was a lot of filler and could have ended much sooner. Wasn't a particularly interesting or original take on common theme. Quite predictable and eventually became quite boring.

Dragged on.

It was a page turner, or rather a sound buster? But the accents and expressions of the narrator were so poor at some points that I considered offering my services to audible, how much do you pay? I think I could do a better job!

Terrible narration at some places in the book!
