Sixteen-year-old Jerry Henderson only wanted one thing: a Thanksgiving hunting trip with his friends. Against his father’s better judgment, he joins John Davis and the Morris brothers deep in the Louisiana woods, hoping for adventure, freedom, and a story worth telling.

They get one.

After a long day of empty trails and missed opportunities, the boys finally spot their prize—a large pig rooting through the brush. Excitement takes over. Guns fire. The animal falls. To the boys, it is a lucky kill and the promise of Thanksgiving ham.

Then a stranger walks into camp.

Mark Fredrick claims the pig was his, and a small notch in the animal’s ear may prove it. What began as a careless mistake quickly becomes a felony charge for Theft of Livestock. Now Jerry, Daniel, and David are facing juvenile court, while eighteen-year-old John may face even harsher consequences in adult court.

As the trial approaches, Jerry is haunted by vivid nightmares of handcuffs, guilty verdicts, and a future ruined by one terrible misunderstanding. Everyone tells him he is not a criminal—but the law may say otherwise.

Set against the backdrop of rural Louisiana, The Pig’s Ear is a coming-of-age legal drama about friendship, fear, responsibility, and the thin line between a mistake and a crime.
