The Man Who Loved a Woman explores the rich relationship between men and women, and how believers' efforts to bridge the gaps are rewarded in marriage and Christian life—all done without usual apologies for Jesus' severity or standard psychobabble turning this ultimate adventure into a therapy session.
The Beginning-The Bible begins and ends with man, woman, and a wedding—from Adam and Eve in a Garden to the Spirit and Bride in Paradise saying "Come." We're thrust into the fallen human stream with: "Thou shalt not commit adultery"—a story of bumbling male nobility and surprising female strength.
The Wedding-Sylvia, blond hair like a crown, was slender, stately, magnanimous—a representation of Eve. I was the outsider, grateful to be invited. Radiant, she said "I do"—God's gift to me. We kissed. The crowd cheered.
Intimacy-Intimacy is the bridge connecting the islands of male and female. Today there's nothing left to connect—we've become one conglomerate of malls, workspaces, and recreation, a unisex fantasy of interchangeable parts meeting utopia. Yet proximity isn't closeness.
The Future of Marriage-Rather than close with sociologists' dreary predictions, we romp through futurist and dystopian literature, where man's final rebellion creates a loveless world. We counter with God's vision: love entered the world just as sin did.
