I report that an early-season nor'easter is creating a multi-day coastal flooding threat from the Outer Banks to the Jersey Shore. We have coastal flood watches for coastal North Carolina, Hampton Roads and Virginia's tidal rivers, Maryland's Eastern Shore, Delaware, and southern New Jersey. Forecasters expect one to three feet of inundation in low-lying shoreline areas and tidal waterways late tonight through Friday, with two to three feet possible on Hatteras and Akracoke Islands. I emphasize that the worst impacts are likely on the Thursday evening and Friday morning high tides, with specific risk to vulnerable stretches of Highway 12, significant beach erosion, and northeast waves of six to twelve feet with gusts to 45 miles per hour.
