The story is compelling as usual for this series; however, I found it hard to follow which character was speaking because the character performances don’t feel true to character. Having the official voice actors do the audiobook also increased value to me because I could watch the show or the movies and hear the same voice. Hopefully, Britney comes back to voice the next volume.

I miss Brittney Karbowski’s performance

I don't really make a habit out of writing reviews, full disclosure - felt like I should on this one just to clear the air a bit.

Abby Espiritu is no Brittany Karbowski, I'll say that. But she doesn't do a BAD job per se, she's just not Brittany. I could more or less tell who was talking 90% of the time and the rest of the time I could figure out from context. Ideally it would be nice for Brittany to be able to return for Vol. 9, but if Abby stays then I won't be too broken up about it. I have heard worse contrasts between the "regular" narrator for a series and a different one coming in for a single book, and I can tell you that Abby and Brittany really aren't that far divided in terms of narration style.

As for the story, maybe it's the 'tism in me but this was a good one for me. I like hearing about the setting up of things, the administration and development involved. Not very much action, this one's more calm before the storm, but it was a nice relaxing listen, and it was good to get context for how some events in the anime actually fully panned out in the original piece.

Enjoyable, just gonna clear the air a bit...

I'm enjoying the new voice work, the comedic moments felt natural and fun to have between new friends. Pls let vol 9 come out quickly

New narrator is really good.

This volume is definitely one of the weaker volumes, but that's still pretty good. Unlike the more action-packed entries, this one is almost entirely economical stuff with some political events too. That's right guys, it's the '6 episodes of meetings' volume from the anime! Thankfully I like these sorts of events, so I enjoyed the extra information! Some of the stuff I didn't particularly care about, but mostly I did enjoy the development of Tempest. Looking forward to the next volume!

Regarding the new narrator, I ended up getting used to them and they're actually pretty good. That being said, I really wish they'd stop bringing in the officials VAs for series, and then having them swapped out after awhile. I get it's a selling point, but it's just annoying when you're used to certain voices. Give the choice, I would much rather have the official VA back, if nothing else for consistent voices. Their male voices were also better imo.

Preferred the original voice actor. Dropping the series as can even tell who is who anymore.
