Casper Trenchton is a man haunted by his past. Fleeing to the quiet lanes of Shropshire in search of solace, he finds instead a town steeped in secrets. Under the employment of the enigmatic Doctor Mogfadian and his niece, Julie, Casper is drawn into a web of uncanny occurrences. Wendlelow, he soon learns, is no haven; it is a place where darkness festers and ancient horrors stir. Within these pages lie nine chilling, interconnected tales from a town that reason forgot. So stoke the fire, draw the curtains tight, and prepare to be horrified.

Threads of Shadow audiobook review.

Like the first audiobook in the series, this further collection of short stories is great for listening to in relatively short bursts. The shorter tales last around half an hour, with the longest and final chapter lasting just under two hours.

Once again, the tales take place in and around an other-worldly version of Shropshire and the Welsh boarders during the early twentieth century. The tales are more closely intertwined than those of the first book in this series (Fireside Horror) and forge a more clearly defined overarching narrative, with a very satisfying conclusion.

You would not need to read (or listen to) Fireside Horror first, to enjoy this book, but there are some familiar characters and references back to the first book.

Once again, I found P. A. Sheldon’s writing to be well paced, bringing the world and its inhabitants to life beautifully for my usually lacking imagination.

The narrator, Mark Adams has done a great job, handling the more dialogue heavy chapters with seeming ease.

Very enjoyable.

More creepy and intriguing folklore tales.
