The king is dead, but Havlands is still in turmoil, plagued by distrust amongst the conquered rebels, shifters, Fae, and humans.

With the impending threat of the invading Oakgards' Fae, Elessia and her friends find themselves in a race to unite their fractured realm. But as Elessia grapples with the deadly implications of her newfound powers, she and Merrick discover a devastating truth: the price of her new gifts may force them to leave Havlands and their friends behind to face the looming war alone.

As Elessia and Merrick journey to Vastala in desperate search of answers, their friends must survive the brutal politics of a collapsing realm on their own. Bonds are tested, loyalties shift, and the lines between ally and enemy blur. And with fate at the door, they each must decide whether answering the call of destiny is worth facing the shadows that haunt them—all before it's too late.

I really struggled with this final book. I’d completely lost interest in Elessia and Merrick, while the side characters—especially Loche—had far more compelling stories but nowhere near enough page time. The plot simply lost its way, before racing through one of the most rushed endings I’ve ever read. Rushed conclusions may be common in romantasy, but this was so abrupt and confusing that I’m still not entirely sure what happened. Ultimately, the whole book felt rather pointless.

I also hated the dual narration. The female narrator handled the male voices brilliantly, so I couldn’t understand why it didn’t remain a single-narrator audiobook. The male narrator’s different pronunciation of Ydren was incredibly distracting too. Surely they should have aligned before recording. A disappointing conclusion.

A disappointing end, but I’m here for the side characters

4.5 ⭐'s I loved this book and series but I do feel conflicted a little after finishing this one,

The parts I loved were - the characters, the love stories, the multi POV chapters as I was heavily invested in all the main characters and genuinely wanted to know about all of them with more than just little inclusions in other characters chapters, also I still don't quite know if it's the authors writing style, the story, the narration or what? that quite often pushes an insta cry button I never knew I had but there were so many parts in this book again that had me in tears, they are emotional, sad, heartbreaking, beautiful books, and overall I absolutely loved this series,

Now for why I feel conflicted, this was the fourth book to complete the series but it doesn't feel complete, this book actually felt more like it was a set up to a spin off series yet to come, which if that's the case and there will be one or more spin off's it's probably why a lot of the plot lines were left unanswered? not wanting to sound too whiny about it but it just seems a little unfair to those of us that were invested in this series, the ending felt quite abrupt and I'm still not sure what to think about certain happenings in the last few chapters, I was devastated, then relieved but those feeling aside and as emotional as that specific part made me - was it right? I don't know,

yet again the narrators were amazing, both were incredible - I do wish it had been duet rather than dual but it was still such a good listen.

Loved this book but do feel a little conflicted

I liked the story and the ending rounded the story off nicely. While still leaving an opening if a new path were to be told.

Better than expected
