About this listen

Previously published as The Heretics of De'Ath by Howard of Warwick.

Medieval mystery for people who laugh starts here....now in this glorious second edition. And for the first time in audio. (All the old words and some new ones...)

England's most famous date, 1066: At the monastery of De'Ath's Dingle, during a completely pointless theological debate, there is a mysterious death. Routine business for the average investigative medieval monk.

Unfortunately, this isn’t a tale of average monks.

Anyone who would put the idiot Brother Simon in charge of a murder investigation is either one chant short of a plainsong or is up to something. When Brother Hermitage, innocent in every way, including bystanding, is lined up for execution, he begins to wonder if something might be going on.

Perhaps his new companion, Wat, weaver of pornographic tapestry, can figure out what it is. Before it's too late.

If you are a lover of the historical detective genre, if you have a deep respect for the worlds created, don’t listen to this book. It’ll only upset you.

Be warned, there are now 36 Chronicles of Brother Hermitage.

I’ve read a few of the books in this series and thoroughly enjoyed them. Audiobooks really brings the characters to life.
Brother Hermitage is bit naive but absolutely loveable. Witty, with a great storyline. Looking forward to the next one.

Liked character consistency and general background setting. Funny but could almost smell the setting (dear Lord)

Subtlety in humour

I have been a fan of Brother Hermitage for some time so I was delighted to hear that the series was finally coming to Audible. The wait has been worth while as the first installment has been a pleasure to listen to. I have not come across Callum Hale before so was unsure what to expect from his narration. I need not of worried as he has expertly
gathered together the main characters and brought them to life. This is the first in a series that at the moment totals 36 books and I truly hope that the future will look very bright for the listening world as Brother Hermitage takes his journey through Norman England.
If you enjoy English history and humour (well mixed together) then I thoroughly recommend Howard of Warwick as a good fellow to follow.
I look forward to the next installment of The Garderobe of Death in the very near future.

Long awaited series

a fantastic witty story just what is needed in the present time with nothing but gloom peddled by the media it's such a pity the rest of the series is yet to be on audible, going to be one of thier best sellers without a doubt.

Thank goodness this has been recorded for Audible. I love these books, they're very entertaining and cover an interesting period in history. I was pleasantly surprised by the narration, it was FANTASTIC!!! Hale does a great job of the different voices and brings everything to life, I love his voice.
Please, please, please record the whole series, especially with this narrator. Can't praise this release highly enough.
