She can't resist her stalker's game—or her forbidden protector—in this USA Today–bestselling dark romance from the author of Pretty Monster.

Harper-Rayn thrives in the dark. That's why she's completing her residency in forensic pathology by working nights at Blackstone's morgue. But her preferred shift takes an unsettling turn when the bodies on her autopsy table begin revealing chilling, hidden messages meant only for her.

A masked stalker is trying to communicate with Harper . . . and he's not afraid to bloody his hands to get her attention. With actions that stretch beyond the bounds of sanity, he invites her to play along, and she can't deny just how intrigued she really is.

As his twisted game escalates, fear sends Harper into the arms of someone familiar: SWAT team leader Knight Slater. Sinfully attractive and more than off limits, he's the one man she shouldn't want, the one she's fought to resist . . . Her deliciously untamable step-uncle. But despite the illicit nature of their relationship, they develop a relentless need for each other that can no longer be ignored.

Caught between two men who want to claim her—one who's willing to do anything to protect her and the other who wants her dead or alive—the stakes become more dangerous than ever. Harper will have to decide: Is she ready to risk it all for her heart, or will she die trying?

Hide and Seek is a pitch-black stalker romance with a morally gray MMC and explicit scenes. It is intended for mature listeners. Narrated in duet style.

The book is good, with. perfectly balanced. MCs , Harper isn't full of angst or bratty, she is an independent woman who is proud of herself but isn't arrogant. Night is strong.and a total Alpha but again its balanced. these MCs are characters you can cheer for. The twist did surprise me and that is rare I really hope there is HEA. The narration was brilliant that's how books like this should be done, they did their parts well.

perfect narration.

This started off really good, really enjoyed the ideas. Then things took a turn and at the time I hated it couldn’t get down with what was happening. Kept praying it was all some weird prank. Managed to stay on the crazy ride and ended up enjoying it in the sense of obviously this is supposed to make me feel this way, and applause to the author for succeeding.

Erm, what now?

Hide and Seek by Sheridan Anne was one of those books that completely pulled me in and had me questioning everything. This was not just a thriller; it was a full-on psychological puzzle that had me creating theories, changing my mind, and trying to work out what was real and what wasn’t right until the very end.

Harper Rayn’s story was intense from the beginning. Working in a mortuary, she starts receiving disturbing messages, black roses, and bodies connected to someone who seems obsessed with her. The mystery immediately hooked me, and I found myself constantly asking: who is behind this, and why?

What I loved most about this book was how much it made me think. I spent the entire story trying to piece together clues, questioning every character and every detail. The unreliable perception element was fascinating, and I loved how the book made me question what was actually happening alongside Harper.

The characters were complicated, and the relationships added another layer to the story. I enjoyed trying to understand everyone’s motives and figuring out who could be trusted. The twists kept coming, and even when I thought I had it figured out, the story managed to make me question myself again.

This book definitely isn’t for younger readers. While the mystery and thriller elements are gripping, there are mature themes and scenes throughout that make this an adult read. I would recommend checking the content warnings before picking it up if you are sensitive to darker themes.

My only frustration (and the reason this isn't a full five stars for me) is that I still have one very important unanswered question:

Where is Vincent?

Vincent may not have been the main focus of the story, but after being introduced and given a little bit of his own background, his disappearance left me needing answers. I became far too invested in this poor janitor and needed to know that he was okay. Justice for Vincent!

Overall, Hide and Seek was a stressful, addictive, and memorable read. It had me thinking about it when I wasn’t listening, creating suspect lists, and desperately needing answers. I loved the experience of trying to solve the mystery alongside Harper, even if the book absolutely put my brain through a workout.

I’m definitely intrigued enough to continue with the next book… although I may need to emotionally prepare myself first.

This story isn’t about a woman being unaffected by trauma — it’s about dissociation and fear-based coping, which is the entire point of the book. The FMC’s reactions aren’t “washy”; they’re fragmented, adrenaline-driven, and intentionally uncomfortable.

The intimacy after violence isn’t presented as healthy or romantic healing. It’s a maladaptive response tied to fear, control, and emotional detachment — something the story clearly frames as dangerous rather than desirable
.
If you expect tidy grief and rational behaviour in a dark romance, this won’t work. If you understand the genre as an exploration of psychological damage and morally grey desire, this book delivers exactly that.

Uncomfortable by design
