About this listen

Twelve is right at the Menagerie’s door.

Jessen’s deadly assassin mentor isn’t happy about what happened to his apprentice, and the Menagerie are looking rather suspicious. Their time to deal with him is running out -- and he isn’t going to be nearly as easy to deal with as any of the other threats they’ve handled thus far.

But the Menagerie’s fame has started to spread beyond just the ears of their foes, and Jessen isn’t the only one at their doorstep. Everyone seems to want to claim a small piece of Milten for themselves.

Every day that passes brings fame and power to the Menagerie. But such things are nothing new to Arwin. He’s had both before, and neither hold any temptation for him. The only thing Arwin cares about are his friends, and he’ll do anything to protect them.

Anything.

This was the most interesting book of the series jet! The MC's are brilliant, the story is fascinating and the twist aren't predictable. Loved it! Can't wait for the next book!!

A lot happens in a short amount of time. We get to meet others that the guilds have discarded and learn more about the mesh itself and what the world was like before it was created.

I would say that menagerie need to work on their social skills if they want to make friends, rather than enemies. Lilya, in particular, lets the fact that she has control over her environment go to her head a lot, basically kidnapping and assaulting people because it is convenient.

A Bit Forward

my only criticism is that this wasn't 30 hours longer. I really enjoyed this one.

Aside from the story being a bit slow, one of the most irritating features of this book was the writing. Count how many times the author says the phrase 'they coughed into their fist'. Everyone was doing it, that's why I thought they all must have Covid. It was absolutely ridiculous, it's reminiscent of when a child hears a naughty word and can't stop repeating it.
There was also far too much time spent on the MC's smith work and his battles with it. At least the story picked up slightly at the end. If the next book doesn't improve, I'll end my listening with that book but we will see.

You might be mistaken by thinking they all had cov
