About this listen

When a major network offers a TV deal to a group of new writers, the stakes couldn't be higher. They'll have a workshop in Cherringham to shape their show ideas - and win the prized contract. But when the writers get ominous threats, it seems their lives are in danger. Can Jack and Sarah find the culprit in time ... before there's a real 'killer pitch'?

Set in the sleepy English village of Cherringham, the detective series brings together an unlikely sleuthing duo: English web designer Sarah and American ex-cop Jack. Thrilling and deadly - but with a spot of tea - it's like Rosamunde Pilcher meets Inspector Barnaby.

Co-authors Neil Richards (based in the UK) and Matthew Costello (based in the US), have been writing together since the mid-90s, creating innovative content and working on major projects for the BBC, Disney Channel, Sony, ABC, Eidos, and Nintendo to name but a few. Their transatlantic collaboration has underpinned scores of TV drama scripts, computer games, radio shows, and the best-selling mystery series Cherringham. Their latest series project is called Mydworth Mysteries.

The narrator of the audiobook, Neil Dudgeon, has been in many British television programmes including the roles of 'DCI John Barnaby' in Midsomer Murders and 'Jim Riley' in The Life of Riley. He is also known for his film roles in The Nativity, Sorted and Son of Rambow. In 2012 Dudgeon starred as 'Norman Birkett' on BBC Radio 4's Afternoon Play series written by Caroline and David Stafford.

Love this series. This was another great outing with the Cherringham characters. I
Have to agree with others though, the voice of Emma was strange and grating on the nerves.

Another great episode

I’ve liked these books so far, but have given up early on this one as the narrator’s interpretation of a female voice is excruciating.

Awful narration

Having found this crime series several years ago. The stories get better and better.
I am a big fan of the Cherringham series by Matthew Costello and Neil Richards. As always narrated to perfection with the vocal talents of Neil Dudgeon

as always another wonderful and exciting story

Up until now I have loved all of the Cherringham books some more than others and really enjoyed the smooth narration by Neil but this last one just didn’t match up. I guessed the outcome early on and the voice of Emma was AWFUL. Don’t know what made Neil do such a horrible voice. Up until now all of his character voices have been perfect. Hope the next book gets back on track or has Cherringham just run its course now.

Awful

I have no idea what possessed Neil Dudgeon to use that voice for one of the main characters. I couldn’t even listen long enough to return or review (had to leave it playing on silent just to be able to comment). Like he was reading the wolf pretending to be an old lady in Little Red Riding Hood. Just totally bizarre!

That voice??!
