(The Vampire Prophecy- A historical fantasy of magic, sisterhood and vampires in Victorian England) England, 1845. The Harris family is steeped in old magic, a secret kept hidden for generations. Jane’s magic may be the key to an ancient vampire prophecy that could change the course of history—or doom her to an eternity haunted by a dark hunger. Jane is raised to be the perfect debutante—a lady meant for duty and quiet obedience. Forced into an arranged marriage with a cold and calculating man, she quickly learns that her new husband's cruelty may be the death of her. But a bigger threat is on the horizon.

As a dark shroud envelopes Jane's world, a powerful coven of women embraces her. Together, they will face the looming threat of her husband and vampiric domination. But time is running out. As she navigates a world of powerful witches, ruthless vampires, and secrets buried beneath the gaslit streets, Jane must decide: Is she willing to fight for her freedom, even if it means embracing the darkness inside?

For fans of Deborah Harkness, Anne Rice, Susanna Clarke, Silvia Moreno-Garcia, and Grady Hendrix. Never Yours - The Prophecy Series - is a gripping blend of sisterhood, magic, slow-burn romance, and ancient secrets set in a Gothic Victorian England.

Loved the narration from Ellen Dunbavin

Jane has alway been over looked. Keeping silent doing what she is told. Even marring a man who is cruel and treats her badly. No way out that until some one , a man makes her an offer and away out.
One thing for sure there is more to Jane and her family . Magic and finding herself the key to an ancient prophecy.
This is book has witches, vampires, sisterhood, and a woman finding her true self.
Dark themes , listen in the day light.

Never Yours is the first book in Hall-Wood's The Vampire Prophecy series. This book is set in England, 1845 and features Jane.

Jane came from a large family and was raised to be a lady, meaning quiet and obedient. Her parents are eager to get her wed, and although they tell her she will be able to have input on her future husband, they arrange a marriage with a man they believe is well suited. He is, unfortunately, controlling and manipulative and abusive. The only interest he has in her is in her ability to give him a son so he has a rightful heir.

Jane's husband keeps her hidden away in the countryside while he attends parties and slips into countless women's beds. His time away is always Jane's favourite. She never knows what will cause her husband to become violent. While she has not done anything to prevent his child from coming into the world, it seems it was not meant to be. Her womb won't carry to term, and she has lost multiple pregnancies.

Before her husband takes a trip overseas, he beds her once more and promises that if she does not give him a son, he will have her committed. Jane is so tired, and ready to give up, but fortunately those around her pull her into another family. Jane's close friends bring her to join their coven, and help her cultivate the life she wants. Around the same time, Jane also meets a strange and dangerous man. Jane does not fear for her life but instead finds herself curious about him. He starts to visit her and show her things she might otherwise never have seen. Her feelings for him grow, but when danger comes to her door, her new sisters rally together to protect her.

I had the pleasure of listening to the audiobook narrated by Ellen Dunbavin. I think she did a wonderful job bringing the story and the characters to life. I was not sure what to expect when listening to this book but I was most pleasantly surprised. This story resonated as I had recently read The Secret Book Society by Madeline Martin and there were elements that overlapped. As a lover of paranormal romance, I also appreciated that subject matter's inclusion in this story.

While Jane may come across initially as a weak character, nothing could be further from the truth. It just took her some time to wake up to her situation and recognize that she no longer had to allow herself to be powerless. I loved the sisterhood she found in her coven, and the strength and knowledge it brought her. I also appreciated the prophecy aspect of this story, and I am eager to listen to Divinity Blooms to see how things play out.
