About this listen
He's deathless. She's trying to find a reason to live.
LILA
My innocence was ripped from me one fatal night under the starless sky, resulting in an unwanted teenage pregnancy and a secret the Camorra must bury. So my father decided to hand me off to the highest bidder.
The lucky winner? Tiernan Callaghan, psychopath extraordinaire.
The Irish mafia prince wants me for all the wrong reasons: Alliance. Money. Prestige. War.
I am but a pawn in his twisted game. The man who sits on a throne of his enemies' skulls thinks I'm a weakling. Little does he know, in this chess game, the underdog wins.
Because the thing about bad bishops?
They protect good pawns.

There were parts of this book I enjoyed and other parts that just weren't my cup of tea, the parts I liked - it's a dark, spicey, mafia romance and I did enjoy how the actual romance progressed (I'm a sucker for "you're mine", the "bad" guy getting all mushy only for the woman he loves etc) and how from traumatic pasts the main characters were good for each other in the end, I really liked that the FMC is deaf and the inclusion of people wrongly assuming that means a lack of ability or intelligence as it happens even when it isn't being played in to as in this book, overall it was an enjoyable story, definitely not terrible but not up there with my favourites - although I will absolutely be reading/listening to the next books in the series as we've met the characters now and I want to know more, I guessed what the "big reveal" was quite early on but I'm ok with that as it turned out how I expected, the parts of this that weren't my cup of tea is purely personal taste, yes I read the book blurb but I kind of assumed there might be a "some years later" bit but there wasn't so a younger FMC when you're a bit more mature isn't at the top of my favourite trope list, also although I've read/listened to much darker books this would be one I'd say to anyone going in to it to check the TW as one in particular is a big part of the story and might be too sensitve for some readers.
