From the bestselling author of In an Instant comes a deeply moving novel following the transformative journeys of two women walking entwined paths on a legendary route across Europe a generation apart.

Reina Watkins lost her father when she was eight. Seventeen years later, she still carries that grief. When her budding journalism career takes an unexpected turn, it leads her to the ancient five-hundred-mile Camino de Santiago in Spain. Now she finds herself embarking on the same pilgrimage that her father made at her age, unaware of how profoundly it will change her.

Back in 1997, Isabelle Vidal is a teenager on the run. Fleeing from her boarding school, she heads straight for the Way of Saint James. She’s heard the Camino will provide. And so it does, in the form of a handsome young American and the promise of a new life. But it could all fall apart if her troubles catch up with her.

One woman is coming to grips with her past; the other is grasping for her future. But as each treads the same hallowed trail, it will knot their destinies together in a most miraculous way.

I put my headphones on and listened to this as a spent a day painting doors in my home! The whole story is exquisite and you feel you are actually walking the route with both women and their companions and feeling their pain and joys. I listened to this in one day which is a first for me and it kept me engaged throughout. The book made me do my own research to the area after as I love travelling. Highly recommended

This is a dual timeline story that connects across the decades. It’s interesting and intriguing. Very enjoyable and entertaining as an audiobook.

Amazing Family Saga

I chose Call of the Camino by Suzanne Redfearn because walking the Camino is one of my biggest life ambitions. I expected to enjoy the setting, but I wasn’t prepared for how deeply this story would touch me.

This is so much more than a book about a pilgrimage. It’s about people. Their pasts, their grief, their hopes, and the different reasons that lead them all to the same path. I loved how the story moved between the then and now, gradually revealing the lives and experiences that shaped each character. It felt incredibly real and heartfelt.

Listening to this book made my dream of walking the Camino feel even more special. It reminded me that the journey isn’t just about reaching Santiago, but about the people you meet, the conversations you have, the burdens you carry, and sometimes the ones you finally find the strength to let go of.

By the end, I felt as though I had shared a small part of the Camino with every character. This story stayed with me long after I’d finished listening, and that’s the sign of a truly memorable book.

If, like me, the Camino is on your heart, or if you simply love stories about healing, hope and the connections we make with others, I wholeheartedly recommend this audiobook.

More than a story. It felt like I was walking the Camino

The story was ok - I liked the Camino journey of the two characters in different timelines, but had to read most of it rather than listen as the 17 year old character’s voice sounded about 55, which really spoiled that storyline for me.

Audio spoiled by inappropriate narration

The second half of the book was more entertaining than the first half. I almost gave up but I’m glad I stuck with it.
I found the 1997 narration annoying, it sounded like a middle aged lady rather than a 17 years old girl she was pretending to be and the whiney somber voice was just grating.

Good in parts not so good in others
