A story that grips Ireland

When recently widowed Jason Corbett hired a wholesome young American, Molly Martens, to care for his two young children, there was nothing to suggest she was a fantasist - and that her obsession with his children would end in his death.

In 2011, Jason and Molly married and settled in her native North Carolina. Just four years later, Jason was found beaten to death on the floor of the marital bedroom. The only others in the house were Jason's children, his wife and his parents-in-law. In a stunning twist, Molly and her father Tom, a former senior FBI agent, admitted to killing Jason but claimed self-defence, saying he had a record of domestic abuse.

A Deadly Marriage is the shattering story of how a wealthy and well-connected American family framed the victim of an horrific killing as the aggressor, destroyed his name and served minimal jail time. Full of fresh on-the-ground reporting by journalist Brian Carroll, who has spent months in North Carolina, it is the definitive account of an extraordinary case.

This book will stay with me for the rest of my life. It’s a fantastic book. I am absolutely disturbed at how the Corbett family as a whole were treated by American police. Jason was clearly seen as a second class citizen by the American justice system. As an Irish person I’ll never set foot in America again after reading the book. I’m sure karma will ultimately make Molly and Tom pay for what they did to Jason, may he rest in peace.

very sad story. what should have been a happy ending turned into terrible nightmare. I have no sympathy for the crazy American family involved in the murder and hope karma bites them right in the...my heart is with the children and truly hope they can have decent lives and applaud their Irish family for fighting like they did for justice for Jason. it's so easy to slander him when he cannot fight back but the sister fought like Tyson and I admire her for it. Great book

tragic mess

Excellent journalism. It’s terrifying how someone so seriously mentally ill and deranged can be believed, and paint herself as the victim. Blonde and pretty, and devious as hell. With an arrogant father whose hatred of the victim is clear.

Doubts can always be cast on a case, but this book shows that they were not *reasonable* doubts. The evidence of what happened is overwhelming once the distractions are removed. Jason was the victim of gaslighting, lies, abuse and ultimately, murder.

Thorough Investigation

It’s hard to believe this can happen and has happened and it’s like an incredible movie that you find hard to believe? But this is actual reality.

The detail was previously unknowing to me
