Discover the next book in the globally bestselling Alex Cross series... now the inspiration for the original series CROSS on Prime Video starring Aldis Hodge as Alex Cross.

Alex Cross thought serial killer Gary Soneji was dead and buried.
But when a hidden cabin reveals a stash of gruesome trophies and diaries, Cross realises the Spider's evil influence has spread wider than he ever thought possible.

The chilling truth soon becomes clear: Cross imprisoned the wrong man.

As he studies the clues, Cross becomes enmeshed in a web of evil designed to ensnare him all along.

Now he must retrace the steps of a long-ago investigation and face…the Return of the Spider.

I have been a long time fan of the Alex Cross series and have enjoyed nearly all of the books. Unfortunately, Return of the Spider just did not work for me.
For the first time in the series, I found myself unable to finish the book. It felt as though the story was reaching back to the very first Alex Cross novel and trying to rework or extend it, rather than offering a fresh and engaging new plot. Instead of feeling excited or clever, it came across as forced and lacking inspiration.
The pacing never quite built the tension I expected from a James Patterson novel, and I struggled to stay invested in the storyline. I kept waiting for it to pull me in, but it simply did not happen. Even the familiar characters, usually a strong point of the series, did not feel compelling enough to keep me going.
This was disappointing as a loyal reader, as the Alex Cross books are usually fast paced and gripping. I hope this is just a rare misstep and that future instalments return to the standard that made the series so enjoyable in the first place.

Not My Favourite Alex Cross Book

James Paterson must be filling a quota! This is dire ! Going back in time - going over old cases ! Just boring
