About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Now a major film directed by Danny Boyle reuniting the cast of
Trainspotting

Years on from Trainspotting Sick Boy is back in Edinburgh after a long spell in London. Having failed spectacularly as a hustler, pimp, husband, father and businessman, Sick Boy taps into an opportunity which to him represents one last throw of the dice. However, to realise his ambitions within the Adult industries, Sick Boy must team up with old pal and fellow exile Mark Renton. Still scheming, still scamming, Sick Boy and Renton soon find out that they have unresolved issues to address concerning the unhinged Begbie, the troubled, drug-addled Spud, but, most of all, with each other.

T2 Trainspotting was previously published as Porno.

So happy this was updated to unabridged as this now completes the full set. Amazing as usual by both TDB and Irvine Welsh.

Amazing

Re release of Porno......... not actually a new book in the Renton series, of course loved it all the same. Welsh's sick wit and audacity shines through, Bigby is the best character in all of Welsh's work, brought to life by Tam dean burn, Bigby a simple but affective soul.......... would totally marry him. Anyway feel a bit peeved that it was portrayed as a new release but was ne, buy it anyway because Irvine Welsh is a genius

Well I feel like penguin and mark renton are one and the same.....

I'm a fan of the VA usually but here IMO he really messes up with his voice for Nikki and that impacted my enjoyment of the book. But the story is great although you can tell Irvine doesn't want to kill off any of his golden gooses

Great book but dubious VA

I had to return this one. The narration doesn't suit the book at all.

It all seems to be done in a single tone - I can't work out if it's sarcastic, or someone reading to 5 year olds, but it takes every scrap of tension out of what is being said. You have to translate on the fly. It took several minutes into one chapter before I realised it was two people having a bitter fight.

I'm sure it works for other genres, but not Irvine Welsh. Not for me, anyway.

The odd thing is, he also narrated Trainspotting, but did that in a much more gritty tone. That was fine.

Very strange narration
