About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
Salem Salazar is the black sheep of her wealthy family. Plagued by scandal, she enrols at the elite Mortimer University to find out what happened to her perfect, missing older sister Olivia. There, she soon discovers Olivia is only one of many girls who have disappeared at Mortimer, and vows to uncover the dark forces responsible. Even if it means using herself as bait.
And Cazimir van der Waal has caught her scent. Caz may look as though he was carved by the Gods, but he also has a dark past, a hidden agenda, and a ravenous appetite for a beautiful, golden-eyed girl. But whilst Caz is obsessed with Salem, he is far from the most dangerous thing at Mortimer.
As Salem and Caz’s investigations intertwine, their undeniable chemistry ignites a passionate bond. Can they uncover the truth before it consumes them both?

This is my first book by RuNyx, so I had no clue what to expect. It's written in 3rd person which is something that I don't tend to enjoy as much.
However, this book is incredible! The writing style for this worked so well, and I had no issues with it being 3rd person!
This book is full of secrets, plot twists, deaths, so so much!
I did immersion reading for this one and the audiobook is phenomenal!!!
Phenomenal!

Story line was good and gripped me instantly, but I felt it was building to something big and the ending was anti-climactic
Solid performance

Dark academia? Yes. Secrets and tension? Sure. But I came in expecting a whirlwind of dark romance and ruinous spice, and ended up with a controlled simmer instead of the full blaze.
The performance was well done, especially with the tone-setting and pacing. But even the narrator couldn’t elevate the spice, which felt… kind of standard. Not bad. Just not the reason I’d press play again.
If you’re new to dark academia and want to dip your toes in the shadows, this might be a good starting point. But if you’re looking for something to wreck your soul and ruin your panties? This one might fall a little short.
A whisper in the shadows, but I wanted a scream
