A HEADLESS MAN. A MISSING GIRL. A LIFE RULED BY SECRETS…

When a decapitated body washes up on the banks of the River Loire in the ancient city of Tours, the reluctant juge d’instruction Mattiew Lombard is brought in to lead the investigation. But when Lombard’s young niece appears, the inquiry changes course. Suddenly immersed in another world – one of eco-terrorism, bio-medical research, French aristocracy and the violent forgotten underbelly of society – Lombard begins to make unexpected connections. Can the brutal murder of a lonely man really be justified by a noble cause? Or are good intentions hiding darker motives, more cynical and more deadly?

A somewhat gruesome, superbly written and most certainly highly entertaining, book by Ian Moore in his Juge Lombard series.
Dead Behind the Eyes like its predecessor (The Man who Didn’t Burn), is an excellent read with a plot filled with a tremendous amount of ducking and diving - leaving you without a clue whodunnit until the very end
The icing on the cake are the many voices of the very fine and talented John Sackville!

Highly recommended

A good follow up story to the first book. The judge's selfishness comes to the fore.

Good story. Narrator is excellent.

A lead character who is engaging and irritating in equal measure and the complications of French justice are riveting. The storyline throws you about in different directions in the same way a dog worries at a soft toy.

Twistily gripping, more please.
