When I first learned that Reese Witherspoon and Harlan Coben were collaborating on a novel, I practically jumped out of my chair. As someone who’s devoured Coben's thrillers—as well as being a part of Reese's book club—this partnership was immediately one of my most-anticipated listens of the year. The medical thriller introduces listeners to Maggie McCabe, a former surgeon with extraordinary skills. Maggie is exclusively chosen to perform a discreet, unconventional medical procedure, and then finds herself thrust into a treacherous world in which her principles and survival instincts are put to the test. ‘And then I was in his arms and I instantly relaxed, it was more relaxing than any aromatherapy massage, or sauna, or pedicure, or head massage or yoga relaxation session…’

I’m not saying there’s padding in this race around the world where our brilliant female surgeon attempts to discover what happened to her husband, aided and abetted by her biker-king father-in-law, Pork-chop. But ‘less is more’ is clearly not in the authors’ vocabulary.

A few readers have said in their reviews that they found the ending confusing. I’m not surprised. Do we ever find out who the mysterious surgeon was who helped Maggie through that last ‘can she save the day’ operation. Perhaps it was lost in the editing. Perhaps I lost consciousness. Perhaps the editor lost consciousness…

All in all, good fun but expect cliches a-go-go.
