About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

As an interpreter of African languages, Bruno Salvador is much in demand. He makes it a principle to remain neutral - no matter what he hears. But when he is summoned on a secret job for British Intelligence, he is told he will have to get his hands dirty. His mission is to help bring democracy to the Congo - democracy that will be delivered at the end of a gun barrel.

The Mission Song is an excoriating depiction of a corrupt world where loyalty can be bought and war is simply an opportunity to settle old scores.

'Simply astonishing ... a formidably sophisticated work of fiction' Charles Cumming

Honestly, I’ve tried and tried and tried to listen to this book - huge fan of Le Carre - and this book has such great reviews (not on here but in literary reviews) which I why I keep trying… but honestly it’s like listening to someone who’s reading aloud to themselves - who doesn’t really give a toss who else might be listening. It’s ruined every attempt - don’t narrators get feedback?? The worst. He sounds bored, like he just can’t be bothered… wasted a credit (which I can genuinely ill afford).

The worst narration EVER!

The voice actor sounds wrong at the start but once you get into it hes perfect (except the welsh bits)

The narrator here is reading the words but not the sentences. The first few chapters seemed to work okay (most of the time) and I liked the tone of his voice, but then it falls apart very quickly and ultimately this audiobook is unlistenable and should never have been released.
