About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

A thrilling history of Formula 1 racing, from its fascinating origins and inner workings to the top drivers of the twentieth century and today, by a celebrated motorsports broadcaster and star of Netflix’s breakout series Formula 1: Drive to Survive.

With just twenty drivers competing at speeds of over 220 miles per hour on the world’s most challenging racetracks, Formula 1 is the ultimate test for any driver.

To become a champion is to be counted among the world’s greatest athletes.
In Grand Prix, Will Buxton pulls back the curtain on the cars, teams, tracks, records, and rivalries that have defined F1 since its very first world champion in 1950, Giuseppe Farina, to modern-day icons like Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.

Join the teams revolutionising car design on the factory floor, become a fly on the pit wall and learn the art of the pitstop, and discover what it really takes to compete in the fast lane with this definitive introduction to the world’s most exhilarating sport.

'Who needs Google when you have Will Buxton? The most comprehensive, all-encompassing book on F1 to date. A joy to peruse' BRAD PITT

'This book is perfect for newcomers who want to take their F1 obsession to the next level and for the die-hards, it's a brilliant potted history of the most fascinating and bonkers sport on the planet' GREG JAMES

Not a book for anyone not yet a fan of Formula 1, but for readers who are and want to know more, this read is excellent. Accompanied by a downloadable pdf. with hand drawn portraits of the famous drivers mentioned, the narrative is in two parts: the history of F1 starting before the official beginning in 1950 and the tracks used, rules and regulations, the development of the cars and the set up of the regulatory body etc, then a listing with a brief biography of drivers and their constructors, decade by decade until and including the early part of 2024.

Read by the author, this is a good working book about the sport, full of factual information.

"Rocket ships on wheels."

Whilst Will Buxton was correct in assuming this book might be picked up by someone who knows nothing about F1, he was wrong in assuming that person might be 3 years old. But yeah I wanted a history of F1 and I kind of got it.

Thank you for the information
