About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
You know your neighbours are plotting a crime but no one believes you . . .
Do you trust the couple next door?
When Lena overhears a conversation between her next-door-neighbours she thinks she must have misheard. After all, the Morgans are a kind, retired couple who have moved to a suburban street in Bristol where nothing ever happens. But it sounded like they were planning a crime.
Her family and friends tell her that she’s made a mistake. Yet Lena can’t stop thinking about it. Because what if they are about to do something terrible? What if she can prevent it?
And what if, in doing so, it might help ease her conscience about her own dark past . . .

While Lena struggles to come to terms with her newly chosen single status, she welcomes new neighbours—a friendly elderly couple with a loving family living nearby.
Knowing that Rufus is preparing to leave for university in a few months, she helps him with one last project for his college course. Needing a background noise recording, Lena agrees to keep an eye on his borrowed retro recording apparatus.
Leaving the tape running overnight, it is only when rewinding to ensure it's worked that she hears a statement from her new neighbours that rocks her world.
Lena becomes aware that things might not be all they seem.
I loved how this book clearly and carefully skipped between different decades. Each character is believable and beautifully described, a testament to Douglas's brilliant writing.
Would I recommend buying this book - hell yeah! What are you waiting for!
