I enjoyed the premise of this book and I kept listening for it to get better. There were some clever little twists, but ultimately it felt like romantasy by numbers as we formulaically went from plot point to plot point with very little to distract you from the quick shift between events and stilted writing. It was very “and Enzo did x and then Isra did y” and felt like it could have used more of a show not tell approach. Not yet convinced I’ll read book two as I’m honestly not invested in their story.

Surprisingly I did not expect to enjoy this book however I did and will be reading the rest of the series. The audio book version was also very well narrated which made me enjoy it even more. I Have not heard any books read by Jane Collingwood before however I hope to here more in the future.

This is the description for heavenly bodies, I’ve included this as I feel it explains the basic idea of the book better than I could write myself. Elara is a very well developed character as is Enzo. If you are not a fan of heavy romance then you may not be a fan of this book.

The world building and magic system is very interesting. Each character has gifts linked to which ever side they are on the dark or the light. I will probably need to do another reread in the future to really grasp the magic system fully as there was a lot to take in however it’s different than any other I’ve read before even with my limited experience of reading fantacy.

I suspect we’ll learn more about the gifts in the other books, I am still quite a beginner to fantacy however I do feel that all readers of fantacy would be able to read and enjoy this book. I will be trying the other books in this series as I’m keen to know how Elara and Enzo’s story continues.

Looking forward to the rest of the series.

I loved this book so much. The story was wonderful, the characters are well written and the writing is lovely. If you're a fan of romantasy then you can't go wrong here. Brilliant! Can't wait for book two!
