About this listen

Clare Corbett reads this novelisation of the TV adventure featuring the Fifteenth Doctor and Ruby Sunday, as played on screen by Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson.

In space, something can hear you scream. And that something is coming.

On her first adventure in outer space, Ruby learns that the universe is bigger, more colourful, and crazier than she could ever have imagined. She also learns that even the Doctor can feel afraid – and that certain nightmares are all too real…

Clare Corbett reads Alison Rumfitt's novelisation of Russell T Davies’ first space adventure for the Fifteenth Doctor and Ruby.

A massive improvement over the episode! “Space Babies was the worst episode of the latest season of “Doctor Who,” it was silly and alienated the older audience. This show changes that referencing the childishness, so that it doesn’t alienate the viewers. The plot is also a lot clearer than in the book. It is also a lot more enjoyable! The book also improves on the emotional aspects of the story, especially with the baby bits. In the show, the iffy CGI ruined the moments. But it helps with the emotional beats with the babies story. I think this plot transfers to a book better than it does, a TV show.

It’s not perfect, the plot of the episode is a bit meh, but that is not the authors fault. The Bogeyman is a childish villain although very creative. But the book is very atmospheric, so this improves.

Overall: 8/10

highly recommend!

I loved this audio book and I want more like this in the future. Space babies is one of the best tv stories of all time and I love seeing it being adapted for a novelisation by BBC Books. Clare Corbett is an amazing narrator and I loved her narration of this audio book.
