Overall, I quite enjoyed this book. I like Paloma's acknowledgement of her particular context and constant highlighting that everyone's circumstances are different (e.g. she's a single mum, famous, privileged etc.) I think it needed that and allowed her to be more open-minded in thinking about motherhood.

The book was quite different in format and I would almost describe it as a series of mini essays than chapters. I think I would have liked some more details in some of them. but at the same time, it was quote refreshing to be left with some controversial and unfinished thoughts.

I think the 2 most helpful messages that came out of the book from me was around post-feminism - that society doesn't support women enough..., we have the pressure of being the main caregivers and still expected to do the lionshare of domestic stuff etc and still have careers, and be feminine. we can't do it all but its expected of us as women. its a structural issue that we feel guilty and like were failing all the time. when in fact, women are brilliant. the other message was around protecting our own identities and time - were not just mums, we are more and we have to remind ourselves more about that and do things that make us feel like us again. which actually leads to a third key message - everything is temporary. if you're struggling with motherhood, don't worry because things change. and that's a blessing and a curse.

if definitely recommend this book to women, mums and anyone else who is a caregiver, parent etc.

What a complete warts and all honest story of life as a woman and mother. I commend Paloma’s honesty , this book hit me emotionally and psychologically in every way as a mother and woman, but what a relief to hear another woman explain what it is to be a woman and mother in society in this day and age. Thank you Paloma , thank you so much.
