About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Discover the exclusive, access-all-areas inside story of one of the most successful F1 teams, perfect for fans of Drive to Survive.

The Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team was once untouchable.
But now, the winner of seven Drivers' World Championships and eight consecutive Constructors' World Championships must confront the reality of no longer being F1's top dog.

Fully embedded across the 2023 and 2024 seasons, award-winning writer Matt Whyman follows decorated drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, Team Principal Toto Wolff, and the extraordinary men and women that design, build and race the team's cars as they fight back – on and off the track.

From the tension of pre-season testing to the thrill and glamour of race weekends – including events such as Silverstone, Monaco, and the first-ever Las Vegas Grand Prix – Whyman provides fascinating insight into the world of the fastest sport on earth and one of its most successful teams.
With exclusive and unprecedented access to the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team, Inside Mercedes F1 charts the journey of the Silver Arrows as they face their greatest challenge yet: the race back to the front.
'In the secretive world of motorsport, nobody has ever been given this level of access to a team at this level' Will Buxton
‘This book lifts the lid on what life is really like inside our team and it has been based on unprecedented access – nobody has ever been this close to what happens behind the scenes.’ Toto Wolff, Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team CEO
‘This is a must read for all F1 fans.’ Greg James
Matt’s access to the inner workings of Formula 1 racing is unparalleled. Sharing extraordinary highs and lows, this is a fascinating view of the immense teamwork involved to compete at the very top.' - Gareth Southgate

Great insight into what makes an F1 team tick. Highly recommend to any F1 fan, whether or not you're a Mercedes fan.

Very interesting

Interesting but not engaging.
The author spent a year with the Mercedes F1 constructors team looking at the team principle, Toto Wolfe, the pit team and the tyre changes, so fast it seems impossible - all 4 removed and replaced in under 3 seconds, Pirelli the maker of the tyres, the chief mechanic, the factories, the team and 2000+ employees, plus, of course, the racers - George Russell and, especially, Lewis Hamilton...

Yes, it is interesting but is let down by the narration by Matt Whyman whose reading is instilled with just too many overlong gaps between phrases giving it a disconnected feel. A pity.

"Vigilance is key."

I enjoyed this book and it would be unfair to see that it doesn't offer anything in the way of insights or interesting information. However, I didn't think there is anything particularly new in this book that most readers who are fans of F1 will already know. That being said, it does articulate well the ups, downs and commitment that the employees of Mercedes F1 go through on a daily basis.

I thought the Author read the book very well and it was easy to listen to.

Enjoyable but Nothing New

it's a great insight into the world of F1 with one of the greatest teams of all time. it made it better having the author narrate the book as it was his experience.

amazing

it is a clear and eye opening insight into one of the biggest teams in motorsport, a fantastic book which covers the highs lows of the sport, but also the people behind the team and it's way of life and thinking, a genuinely good book that has made them feel very human whilst stunning you at the things they do, either big or small scale,
very very enjoyable

a clear and honest insight
