About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

This is the story of my entire life so far... It’s been a rollercoaster ride and I have no intention of getting off any time soon.

Available exclusively in audio, Losing and Finding My Virginity is both of Sir Richard Branson’s multi-million-copy bestselling autobiographies in one combined edition, fully revised and updated, and read for you by the author in full for the first time.

From living on a houseboat to a paradise island home, growing a small business into the global Virgin brand, turning a childhood dream of flying to space into a reality, and building a better world through business, this is an account of almost six decades of entrepreneurship, overcoming the odds and reaching for the stars.

With lessons in life and in business, Losing and Finding My Virginity is a must-listen memoir and an inspiring guide from the ultimate entrepreneur.

Branson has a list of achievements unmatched by any other UK businessman. For anyone burning with entrepreneurial zeal, his reminiscences are akin to a sacred text. - Mail on Sunday

A remarkable story of business success against the financial odds – having created one of the world’s most admired brand names, Branson is entitled to tell it all. - Evening Standard

Really love this man and his stories, an incredible life which shows no signs of slowing down. Personally I love the Virgin Records and Virgin Atlantic startup stories. Also loved the final part of the book when he outlines all the close shaves he’s had in his life 😂. I did have one issue at the outset with the narration which was not like the previous Branson titles (a little dull and not that engaging), this being said he perks up at around the 5 hour mark and he’s back on form. A+ content as always Richard 👍

Extremely insightful and inspirational

I've read the books, and was looking forward to revisiting them via the audiobooks. You'd think, with Richard reading them himself, it would add to the authenticity and connection with the listener. Unfortunately, the recording is sub-par. It sounds like he is in a cupboard rather than a recording studio. Also Richard does not quite hit his stride until later on in the recording. It's not bad enough to make it unlistenable, far from it, but it does mar the enjoyment.

I found this book genuinely inspiring. It is an account from an extraordinary individual who seems to know what matters, has real confidence in himself, and has chased his dream with such commitment and determination that it is both remarkable and motivating.

Richard Branson comes across as unintimidated by most situations, and as someone who generally tries to do the right thing, with one big mistake early on in his life (listen to the book to find out). What struck me is that he stands up for his principles and refuses to be crushed by the kind of bullies who sadly so often get their way. It genuinely gives you hope in humanity when you hear about people like that.

Whilst a significant part of this book is about his business ventures, it also reaches much further than that. It covers the challenges he takes on and the way he pushes himself to succeed. Stubbornness comes to mind, not as a weakness, but as a strength, and it is hard not to admire the sheer persistence behind his decisions. He also talks about global issues and wider responsibilities in a way that I found refreshing, particularly when so many leaders, elected or otherwise, seem unable to deal with those same problems with any real clarity or courage.

As someone who is dyslexic myself, I found his ability to hold the big picture and act on it especially inspiring. Richard Branson comes across as someone with amazing drive and clarity of purpose, and a willingness to keep moving forward even when things get difficult. Whilst he is operating at a level I could only dream of, I recognised the mindset, determination, and the frustrations that can come when you see a path forward and others do not immediately think in the same way. Not better or worse, just different. That said, I am certainly not suggesting non dyslexic listeners will not relate to it as well, I simply found that aspect particularly meaningful and relatable to me.

The only reason I have not given the performance a full 5 stars is that, at times, the audio sounds as though it has been overdubbed later using a different studio setup or microphone. You occasionally get brief moments where the sound shifts noticeably and then switches back again. However, you quickly get used to it, and because the narrative is so engaging it really is not a big issue.

Overall, this was a compelling listen, with a level of detail I had no idea about. It is encouraging, because it shows what can be achieved with belief, persistence, and working together with others who are passionate about what they do, each playing to their strengths.

Fascinating account of someone driven to exceed

Loved it...great and interesting story - but some of the narration and audio production is pretty poor which was a tad disappointing.
