About this listen

There's no going back to Earth. The only way forward is through hell.

After the explosive events surrounding MPF6's destruction on Karkin Four, Wic and his team of daredevil operators join forces with the rebel force known as the Blood Guard. While the Phantoms desire to help relocate human refugees to safer worlds, they're forced to confront a more pressing objective: cut off the head of the beast and keep the Androchidan Empire from enslaving another world.

Wic is immediately flung into the heat of battle, driven by retaliation, a need for justice, and the need to send a message to all other deviant species who'd wish to take advantage of the innocent: don't even think about it.

However, when a convert mission goes sideways, and key Blood Guard operatives turn up missing, Phantom Team must decide just how far they're willing to go to stop an alien species from wreaking havoc in the galaxy.

Tensions mount as the empire's high command closes in for the kill. Lies spread, secrets abound, and betrayal runs like blood in the streets. Will Sir Chuck provide critical intel in time to save the team? Can Wic pull one more hat trick against a world-conquering foe?

Find out in Valley of the Dead, the fifth nail-biting, white-knuckle episode of the acclaimed Ruins of the Earth series by Christopher Hopper and J.N. Chaney.

A can imagine the great story will carry on but unfortunately the new narrator is no R C Bray so I lost interest as the character depictions lost their edge and believability, sorry

Couldn't finish

listened to all 4 previous books and loved them. thr change of narration after 4 books i was just invested in the character portrayal of R C Bray too much and that change took some enjoyment away for me unfortunatly..nothing against new narrator good job but hardd to follow a 4 book build up.

miss previous narrator

First off the change of narrator is regrettable but not the main issue. Furthermore the book is set to the wrong speed; if you listen at 1.15 it helps a lot. My main issue is that the story is becoming silly and melodramatic and the characters are increasingly becoming more shallow and the story in no way makes up for it. I guess I'll read the next book just to get closure, but with zero enthusiasm as this one book has convinced me that the author isn't worth my time.

Too cute by far

RC Bray was excellent in the previous books. The new voice actor is not at his level but to be fair, he grew into the role and I finished the book, having nearly bailed out after the first chapter. I even found myself getting a tear to my eye at one point. He did a good enough job to ensure that I'll listen to the next one but that's really because I'm invested in the story. Changing the voice actor was a massive mistake and I know many people will exit the franchise immediately.

Good story, disappointing performance from a new narrator.

Oh how could this get better? Part of the story broke my heart but I still love the whole arc and how the books developed.

Yep the narrator changed, he did a cracking job under very very difficult circumstances and I think should be commended. Would rather the narrator change than it put more pressure on RC Bray and it take the next decade to get this book out....

OK so the narrator changed, still awesome
