I loved this! I thought it would be meh but I was so wrong! The story was fantastic I listened to both books in a matter of days. If you’re on the fence about it please take this review as a sign to go for it! You won’t be disappointed.

Not what I was expecting!

To be completely honest, I was a bit hesitant to pick up this book—another witch hunter vs. witch story.

But I’m so glad I gave it a chance! Heartless Hunter was my introduction to Kristen Ciccarelli’s writing, and I was instantly hooked. Her prose is beautiful, the pacing is fast, and the flow of the story makes it impossible to put down. I also appreciated the short chapters—it felt like a refreshing change from other fantasy novels.

The story grabbed me from page one. I absolutely loved Rune and Gideon—their depth, their individual backstories, and the way we get to see things from both of their perspectives. It made their motivations and actions feel so much more grounded and real.

One thing that really stood out to me was the uniqueness of the magic system. The way witches access and use their powers felt original and added a fresh twist to the genre—it wasn’t just your typical spellcasting setup.

I adored Rune and Gideon’s chemistry, their smug banter, and the emotional tension as they struggle with their feelings for each other.

And I can’t forget about sweet, lovely Alex. No spoilers, but I was rooting for him the whole time!

All in all, I couldn’t tear myself away from this book. It had me completely captivated from start to finish.
